GASGAS MC-E 2.12 2027: New electric mx bike for kids

First in orange, then in white and now in red too. Anyone hoping for genuinely different model line-ups from KTM, Husqvarna and GASGAS is likely to be disappointed again in 2027. After KTM with the SX-E 2.12 and Husqvarna with the EE 2.12 had already unveiled their electric mini crossers, GASGAS is now following suit with the MC-E 2.12. Big technical surprises are absent, since this is a largely identical sister model. At least young motocrossers, or rather their parents, now have a free choice of favourite colour. And beyond the shared group parts, there is some genuinely interesting technology packed into this little electric bike.

The new GASGAS MC-E 2.12 joins the already familiar MC-E 2 and is aimed at young off-road beginners who are slowly outgrowing the smaller model. The key difference lies in the wheel size: while the MC-E 2 rolls on 10-inch wheels front and rear, the new MC-E 2.12 combines a 12-inch front wheel with a 10-inch rear wheel. The larger front wheel and revised ergonomics are designed to give growing kids more room and a more confident riding feel. The seat height can be adjusted with simple tools, so the youngster doesn't need a new bike after the very next growth spurt.

WP Suspension takes care of the suspension. Add to that a lightweight aluminium frame with an aluminium swingarm, KENDA off-road tyres and hydraulic disc brakes on both wheels. Black rims, black handlebar components and the all-red fairing deliver the typical GASGAS look.

As on the smaller MC-E 2, the electric motor on the new MC-E 2.12 sits directly in the rear wheel hub. This eliminates the chain and sprockets entirely. That not only reduces maintenance, but also removes a potential hazard for young riders. Three different riding modes allow the speed to be matched to the kids' ability. In the first mode, things top out at 7 km/h; in the second, up to 20 km/h is possible. Those who are already confident can call up the maximum speed of 33 km/h in the third mode.

To keep those first off-road experiences as controlled as possible, the MC-E 2.12 features a tip-over sensor that cuts power delivery if the bike falls over. There is also a wrist-mounted safety lanyard that shuts off the motor as soon as the rider parts company with the bike.

The little GASGAS's battery concept is particularly practical. The removable lithium-ion battery uses a mounting system modelled on modern power tools. This means a flat battery can be swapped for a charged spare within a few seconds. Even without a second battery, breaks should be kept short. According to GASGAS, the battery is back to 80 percent of its capacity after around 35 minutes. A full charge takes about one hour.

Another advantage of the electric drive is the low noise level. That can be especially interesting for first rides on suitable private land. However, it does not grant general permission to ride wherever you like. Even with a quiet electric bike, you need the landowner's consent or a properly approved track.

According to the manufacturer, the new 2027 model year GASGAS MC-E 2.12 is available now from GASGAS dealers. Actual availability may vary by country. In Austria the list price is 2,599 euros, in Germany 2,499 euros.
