Until now, KTM had a gap between small and just a little bit bigger. That is exactly where the new KTM SX-E 2.12 2027 comes in: it slots in between the KTM SX-E 2 and the KTM SX-E 3 and is aimed squarely at taller young beginners. The recipe is pretty straightforward. The SX-E 2.12 adopts the basic frame concept of the smaller SX-E 2 but combines it with bigger dimensions. Add to that an electric drive, a weight of 29 kilograms and a few safety features designed specifically for young riders.

Closing the gap between the KTM SX-E 2 and SX-E 3
The KTM SX-E 2.12 2027 expands KTM's electric youth line-up. A 12-inch front wheel, 29 kg weight and a 1.8 kW hub motor target taller young beginners.

KTM SX-E 2.12 2027: 12-inch front wheel and taller build
As with the SX-E 2, the KTM SX-E 2.12 is built around a central aluminium main frame. For the new model, however, the concept has been reworked. The most obvious difference is up front: instead of the SX-E 2's 10-inch front wheel, a 12-inch wheel is used. KTM also fits longer suspension components. The result is a seat height 66 millimetres greater than that of the SX-E 2, which tops out at 500 millimetres. By the numbers, the seat height of the SX-E 2.12 therefore comes in at 566 millimetres.
Ground clearance and wheelbase are larger too. According to KTM, this combination should provide extra stability and control and deliver a more grown-up riding feel overall. Total weight remains at 29 kilograms.
Chassis: WP components with more suspension travel
Up front, a hydraulic WP fork with 90 millimetres of travel does the work. It is meant to soak up bumps with confidence. At the rear, a hydraulic 34 mm monoshock is mounted directly to the swingarm. Spring preload is adjustable, and travel is 70 millimetres. According to KTM, balance and damping characteristics have been matched to the fork. Combined with the revised geometry, the KTM SX-E 2.12 is meant to close the gap between the small entry-level model and the bigger SX-E 3 without giving up the low weight of the SX-E 2.
KTM SX-E 2.12 motor: 1.8 kW and 50 Nm
The drivetrain concept is deliberately kept simple. A 1.8 kW hub motor provides propulsion. KTM describes it as lightweight and maintenance-free. Maximum torque of the system is 50 Nm. Because the electric motor sits directly in the wheel hub, conventional drive components such as chain and sprockets are eliminated. According to KTM, this reduces maintenance and weight while also increasing safety for young riders.
Power comes from a 9.4 Ah lithium-ion battery with IP65 protection. A 500-watt charger is included in the package. Plugged into a 110- or 230-volt socket, a full charge should take around one hour.
Electric drive opens up more places to ride
For a youth bike, the electric drive brings a very practical advantage. KTM describes the SX-E 2.12 as almost silent. This should make riding possible even in places where bikes with combustion engines run up against noise restrictions. According to the manufacturer, the intuitive handling and low weight should also make getting started easier. How accessible the SX-E 2.12 really is for young riders, however, would have to be proven in a real-world test.
Tip-over sensor and lanyard key
Especially on a bike for young riders, the safety equipment is of particular interest. KTM fits a tip-over sensor that automatically cuts the power in the event of a crash. There is also a wrist-mounted lanyard key with engine cut-off. If the rider separates from the bike, the drive can be shut off. The handlebar also carries an illuminated multifunction display. A colour-coded indicator shows the currently selected riding mode. This is meant to let the young rider see at a glance which setting is active.
KTM SX-E 2.12 2027: The missing link in the electric youth line-up
The positioning of the KTM SX-E 2.12 is clearly defined. It is meant to take over where young riders are gradually outgrowing the SX-E 2 but the SX-E 3 is not yet the right next step. To do this, KTM combines the familiar basic concept of the SX-E 2 with a 12-inch front wheel, longer suspension elements, a 566-millimetre seat height and more ground clearance. The 1.8 kW hub motor, meanwhile, keeps the mechanical layout simple.
According to KTM, the 2027 model year KTM SX-E 2.12 is available now from authorised KTM dealers.
