One year after the debut of its first mx bike, Ducati is following up with the Desmo450. According to Ducati, the experience gathered during the first racing season fed into the development of both the race and production machines in parallel. The result is not a fundamental overhaul, but numerous changes to gearing, ergonomics, maintenance and highly stressed components.

The 2027 model year Ducati Desmo450 MX and Desmo450 MX Factory were unveiled on 10 September 2026 in Borgo Panigale. Both versions receive the technical revisions, but still differ significantly in terms of suspension, exhaust system and race equipment.

Ducati Desmo450 MX 2027 with shorter final drive ratio

One key change concerns the final drive. Ducati fits the Desmo450 MX 2027 with a 51-tooth rear sprocket. This is said to increase the torque available at the rear wheel, which according to the manufacturer should above all improve responsiveness when accelerating out of corners.

Ducati has also revised the points where the rider interacts directly with the bike. The gear lever and rear brake lever get redesigned contact surfaces. These are intended to improve ergonomics and make foot movements easier when shifting and braking.

The filler opening of the 7.2-litre fuel tank grows to a diameter of 40 millimetres, which should make refuelling quicker and easier. Also new are Pirelli Scorpion MX32 Mid-Soft tyres in sizes 80/100-21 inches front and 110/90-19 inches rear. Ducati expects them to deliver more traction and better performance on modern motocross tracks.

Ducati Desmo450 MX 2027 gets reinforced components

A considerable part of the update concerns components that barely stand out on a regular spec sheet. Among other things, Ducati has adjusted the tolerances of the starter drive gearing. The water pump seal gets a revised geometry and a Teflon coating.

The exhaust header has been reinforced where it joins the silencer. Several parts exposed to high loads or impacts have also been revised. These include the chain guide mount, the fork protectors and the front engine mounts on the frame.

For 2027, the robustness of critical components on the Ducati Desmo450 MX has been increased.

With these measures, Ducati aims to increase the reliability, robustness and service life of the Desmo450 MX. The update therefore targets not only the directly noticeable controls, but also hard-to-see areas of the design.

Predictive maintenance for the Ducati Desmo450 MX 2027

Also new is a predictive maintenance system. On the standard version, it requires the Wi-Fi module offered as an accessory. The system analyses the bike's usage data and adapts the engine maintenance intervals to the actual operating conditions.

Rather than relying solely on a fixed interval, maintenance planning should thus be based more closely on the real load placed on the machine.

The Wi-Fi module and the X-Link app can also be used to configure the riding modes. The Desmo450 MX has two power modes and two riding modes. Depending on the version, adjustable parameters include throttle response, launch control, engine braking and Ducati Traction Control.

Ducati Desmo450 MX 2027 with Desmo single and 63.5 hp

The aluminium twin-spar frame still houses the 449.6 cc Desmo single-cylinder engine. It produces 63.5 hp at 9,400 rpm and delivers peak torque of 53.5 Nm at 7,500 rpm. Ducati particularly highlights the torque in the low and mid rev range as well as the acceleration at high revs.

The aluminium frame makes do with a small number of welds. This design is intended to strike a favourable balance between stiffness and weight. Ducati expects it to deliver stability, precision and a direct riding feel in a variety of conditions.

According to the manufacturer, the Desmo450 MX was developed for both professionals and ambitious amateur riders. Performance, weight and reliability are meant to be well balanced. The interplay of engine, chassis and electronics is also intended to build confidence quickly. Of course, these riding characteristics can only be assessed after a test, but our colleague Busty was quite taken with the first Desmo450 MX when he tested it.

Suspension and brakes of the Ducati Desmo450 MX 2027

Up front, a fully adjustable Showa upside-down fork with 49 mm stanchions and 310 mm of travel does the work. The outer tubes feature a Kashima coating. At the rear sits a likewise fully adjustable Showa shock, providing 301 mm of rear-wheel travel. The swingarm is made of cast aluminium.

The Brembo braking system uses single Galfer discs. The front disc measures 260 mm, the rear 240 mm. On the standard version, a DID chain handles the drive to the rear wheel.

Ducati combines Takasago Excel aluminium rims with Alpina spokes. A 21 x 1.60-inch rim is used at the front, with a 19 x 2.15-inch rim at the rear.

Electronics of the Ducati Desmo450 MX 2027

Standard equipment includes an electronics package with Ducati Traction Control, Power Launch, quickshifter and Engine Brake Control. Ducati describes the patented traction control as a solution developed specifically for motocross. The system is designed to intervene precisely when excessive slip occurs at the rear wheel.

Visually, the standard version can be recognised by its Ducati Red livery with black logos. The black lettering replaces the white logos used previously.

Ducati Desmo450 MX Factory 2027 with titanium exhaust system

The Ducati Desmo450 MX Factory 2027 adopts all the technical changes of the standard model, but is aimed more squarely at direct competition use. Despite its more extensive equipment, the Factory version is lighter than the standard version. However, a specific overall weight has not been disclosed.

Standard equipment includes a complete Akrapovič titanium exhaust system with matching mapping. It cuts weight by 1.7 kilograms and is also intended to improve power delivery and acceleration.

The suspension also sets the Factory apart from the standard version. The fully adjustable 49 mm Showa fork likewise offers 310 mm of travel, but gets a Kashima Extra Dark coating on the outer tubes. The inner tubes receive a TiO treatment and a superfinish.

The fully adjustable Showa shock provides 301 mm of rear-wheel travel. Its body also features a Kashima Extra Dark coating. The piston rod gets the TiO treatment including superfinish. According to Ducati, these surfaces should enable smoother responsiveness and greater wear resistance.

Billet-machined Factory triple clamps are intended to save additional weight. These are joined by a skid plate and a front brake disc guard. Both components are designed for the stresses of racing.

On the Factory, a gold RK MXU O-ring chain handles the final drive. A holeshot system is designed to optimise acceleration and stability at the start.

The Wi-Fi module is standard on the Ducati Desmo450 MX Factory. It allows the riding modes to be adjusted via the X-Link app. Throttle response, launch control, engine braking and Ducati Traction Control can be configured. The module also provides the predictive maintenance function.

Visually, the Factory version receives the 2027 Ducati Corse livery. A red-and-black Ducati logo is meant to emphasise the link to the manufacturer's motorsport activities.
