Husqvarna EE 2.12 2027: Electric MX Bike for Kids

Until now, there was room for another youth model between the small Husqvarna EE 2 and the larger EE 3. That is exactly where Husqvarna Mobility is positioning the new EE 2.12 for the 2027 model year. The electric mx bike combines a 12-inch front wheel with a compact aluminium frame and adjustable ergonomics. And it doesn't stand alone. With the KTM SX-E 2.12 2027, the sister brand has also unveiled an identical electric mx bike. Both bikes follow the same approach: offering young riders an additional size step between the existing entry-level models.

A key feature of the new Husqvarna EE 2.12 is its adjustable ergonomics. The seat height can be set to 536 or 566 millimetres. Optionally available handlebar risers provide a further way to adapt the riding position. The model is therefore aimed at kids who have already outgrown the EE 2, but for whom the EE 3 isn't yet the right size.

Up front, the EE 2.12 rolls on a 12-inch wheel. This is paired with an aluminium frame and WP suspension components. Husqvarna expects this combination to deliver an easily controllable bike for young motocross beginners. How the setup actually feels on the track would have to be shown in a hands-on test.

Power comes from a 1.8 kW electric motor housed directly in the rear wheel hub. This eliminates components typical of conventional motocross bikes, such as the drive chain and sprocket. The motor is fully enclosed. This is intended to reduce maintenance and at the same time prevent young riders from coming into contact with moving drivetrain parts. Three riding modes are available for power delivery. Among other things, they differ in their respective top speed. Husqvarna does not state specific speed figures in the current release.

Energy is supplied by a removable Husqvarna 40-B330X battery. According to the manufacturer, the battery can be fully charged in approximately one hour. The removable design allows the battery to be charged separately from the bike. Husqvarna provides no information on range or possible ride time in the current press release.

On a motocross bike for kids, safety features play an important role. Husqvarna therefore equips the EE 2.12 with a tip-over sensor and a wrist-mounted safety lanyard. The sensor is designed to cut the drive in the event of a tip-over. The safety lanyard enables the motor to be shut off if rider and bike become separated.

On top of that comes the enclosed hub motor, which does away with an exposed running chain. These solutions are intended to make getting into motocross safer. They are no substitute for adult supervision.

For the suspension, Husqvarna relies on WP components. These are complemented by ODI handlebar grips and KENDA Trakmaster tyres. The 12-inch front wheel and the aluminium frame form the basis of the new model. The tyres are intended to provide sufficient traction on loose terrain. Whether the overall package meets the needs of young riders can only be judged in real-world use.

The EE 2.12 is also interesting with regard to the model line-up of the Pierer brands. Alongside the Husqvarna, there is an identical sister model in the form of the KTM SX-E 2.12 2027. The KTM is likewise positioned between the SX-E 2 and SX-E 3. It too uses a 1.8 kW hub motor and a 12-inch front wheel. The 1000PS report on the KTM that has already been published also lists a weight of 29 kilograms as well as specific suspension data.
