Moto Morini Coguaro: New enduro with 34 hp unveiled

More everyday use in the Kanguro 300's off-road concept

A familiar name returns, this time with the single-cylinder engine from the Kanguro 300 and more focus on everyday use, pillion and luggage. Add to that a 21-inch front wheel and long suspension travel. This is how Moto Morini positions the new Coguaro.

Back in the 1980s, Moto Morini already had a Coguaro with 350 or 500 cm³. The street enduro of that era combined a 21-inch front wheel with a concept that, according to the manufacturer, was meant to bring together long-distance riding, uncomplicated handling and everyday usability. At EICMA, the brand is now presenting a new Coguaro. It revives this idea and aims to appeal to riders who want to venture off paved roads without choosing a fully specialized off-road bike.

Moto Morini Coguaro: 34 hp from a single cylinder

For the drivetrain, Moto Morini relies on the Kanguro 300 platform. The liquid-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder engine with DOHC valve control has exactly 292.4 cm³ displacement. Its bore is 78 mm, the stroke 61.2 mm, and the compression ratio 11.5:1. According to the manufacturer, it delivers 34 hp or 25 kW at 9,000 rpm as well as 27 Nm at 8,500 rpm. The engine meets Euro 5+, and Moto Morini states a top speed of 145 km/h. With this, the technical key data are set, while the Coguaro is meant to differentiate itself from the Kanguro primarily through its orientation.

Moto Morini Coguaro – engine

The liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine produces 34 hp at 9,000 rpm according to Moto Morini.

Coguaro with reinforced rear end and relocated tank

The kinship also continues in the chassis concept. Moto Morini uses the Kanguro 300 as a basis, but designs the Coguaro to be more versatile and less specialized. For this, the frame is reinforced at the rear to better accommodate a pillion or luggage. The main frame is made of chromium-molybdenum steel and combines two upper beams with a closed cradle construction. The welded swingarm, with its rectangular profiles, is also made of steel. For these components, the manufacturer cites simplicity and robustness as selection criteria.

Moto Morini Coguaro – seat and luggage rack

The tank moves forward. This is meant to make the rider's seat more comfortable and accessible.

The 14-liter tank moves forward. According to Moto Morini, this is meant to make the rider's seat more comfortable and accessible, as well as change the weight distribution. The seat height is 845 mm, the dry weight 160 kg. Important for classification: this is explicitly the manufacturer's dry weight figure. The Coguaro measures 2,240 mm in length, 905 mm in width, and 1,405 mm in height. The wheelbase is 1,465 mm. The changes to the rear end and tank underline the ambition to cover not only off-road excursions but also daily use.

Moto Morini Coguaro: 230 mm travel and off-road ABS

Up front, it stays with the name-historically fitting 21-inch wheel, while an 18-inch wheel is used at the rear. The datasheet lists tire dimensions of 80/100-21 and 120/80-18. A conventional fork with 37 mm stanchion diameter offers 230 mm of travel. At the rear, a progressively linked central shock with Pro-Link system also provides 230 mm of travel. Added to this is 255 mm of ground clearance. Moto Morini thus pursues the goal of easing the entry into off-road riding with an easy-to-use bike, while preserving on-road versatility.

Moto Morini Coguaro – front brake

Up front, the Coguaro combines a 295 mm brake disc with a two-piston caliper.

Braking at the front is handled by a 295 mm disc with a two-piston caliper. At the rear sits a brake disc with a 255 mm diameter. In off-road mode, the ABS is deactivated. The combination of large wheels, long travel and switchable ABS is thus part of the technical concept, while Moto Morini aims to make the Coguaro accessible to a broader audience than the Kanguro.

Coguaro: South America and Asia in focus

The new enduro is also part of Moto Morini's international growth strategy. The brand names South America and Asia as its main target markets. It is precisely there that the manufacturer sees potential for small-displacement motorcycles with a 21-inch front wheel, which are meant to enable both everyday mobility and excursions off well-known paths. The Coguaro shares the Kanguro's spirit of discovery, but through its different positioning is meant to reach additional buyers and different usage needs. The historic name provides the reference to the brand's own model history.
