2027 Ducati Panigale V4 SP: carbon wheels and racing gearbox

Numbered Winter Test with 218 hp and new aerodynamics

Carbon wheels, a dry clutch and a gearbox with neutral below first: Ducati sharpens the Panigale V4 SP for 2027. Add to that larger winglets and Corner Sidepods. What's inside the numbered Sport Production package?

V4 with 218 hp and a special racing gearbox

At Ducati, SP stands for Sport Production. On the 2027 model year Panigale V4 SP, the badge is explicitly aimed at ambitious amateur riders on the race track. The base is the Panigale V4 MY27, to which Ducati adds carbon wheels, components from racing and extra adjustment options. The numbered series also gets its own Winter Test look. The idea behind it: anyone who regularly turns into the pit lane gets plenty of suitable parts straight from the factory.

The Desmosedici Stradale remains a 1,103 cc V4 with a counter-rotating crankshaft and MotoGP lineage. Ducati quotes 218 hp at 13,500 rpm, two hp more than before, plus 120.6 Nm at 11,000 rpm. Improved gas exchange and reduced mechanical friction are said to make the extra power possible. According to the manufacturer, the enlarged front air intake increases air pressure at 300 km/h by 0.6 percent. Longer final gearing and a limiter raised by 500 rpm in gears two to five are meant to deliver a higher top speed and fewer gear changes per lap. The spec sheet lists 15,000 rpm as the rev limit from second to sixth gear.

One special feature is the Ducati Racing Gearbox with Neutral Lock. Neutral sits below first gear. This is meant to stop an accidental neutral between first and second from spoiling the party under hard braking. Neutral Lock prevents neutral from being selected while riding. Engaging it requires a separate operating procedure, which according to Ducati is also used by the factory riders in Superbike and MotoGP.

Dry clutch and lightweight racing chain

The SP package includes the STM EVO-SBK dry clutch. Ducati promises a more effective anti-hopping function and smoother behaviour when decelerating. The mechanical engine braking can also be adjusted. The dry clutch also allows the use of Ducati Corse Performance Oil, for which the manufacturer quotes up to 3.5 hp of extra peak power. Final drive is handled by a lightweight DID ERV7 racing chain in 520 size with matching front and rear sprockets. According to Ducati, this chain type is also used by several factory teams. So the SP badge isn't limited to the paintwork here.

More downforce and sidepods for the corners

The aerodynamics package, homologated for WorldSBK according to Ducati, combines enlarged two-piece winglets with Corner Sidepods. Ducati introduced this solution in MotoGP in 2021 and transferred it to a production bike with the Panigale V4 R. At 270 km/h, the new add-ons are said to generate 25 percent more downforce than on the Panigale V4, improving stability and precision at high speed. According to the manufacturer, the Corner Sidepods exploit ground effect at extreme lean angles. This is meant to pull the bike tighter towards the apex, enabling higher corner speeds and shorter lap times.

The enlarged winglets complement the Corner Sidepods.

Carbon wheels and electronic Öhlins suspension

According to Ducati, the carbon wheels with five split spokes reduce unsprung mass and moments of inertia compared to the forged aluminium wheels of the Panigale V4 S. This is meant to improve direction changes, agility and steering precision. The wheels are also approved for riding with a pillion. Added to this are a Front Frame chassis with optimised lateral stiffness, a 17-litre aluminium tank and a lithium battery. Standard fitment is Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa V4 rubber, with a 200/60 at the rear. The spec sheet lists a wet weight without fuel of 188 kg.

The carbon wheels are designed to reduce unsprung mass and moments of inertia.

For the suspension, Ducati relies on the event-based Öhlins Smart EC 3.0, aka Ducati Electronic Suspension 3.0. A pressurised NPX fork works together with a TTX36 shock and an Öhlins steering damper that is also electronically controlled. At the rear, spring preload can be changed hydraulically via remote adjustment. A new adjustable linkage rod derived from the Panigale V4 R also allows rear ride height to be adjusted independently of preload. For fine-tuning between two sessions, these are handy adjusters.

Brembo brakes and adjustable ergonomics

Brembo Hypure monobloc calipers are paired with an MCS 19.21 master cylinder. Its Multiple Click System offers three settings to adjust lever feel. Lever reach can also be changed on the move via a remote adjuster on the left handlebar. Brake and clutch levers are machined. Carbon brake cooling ducts are also included for track use. The machined aluminium footpegs feature carbon heel guards and are adjustable. A quick swap between standard and reverse shift pattern is provided. Adjustable clip-ons round off the adjustment options; according to the documentation, adjusting them is intended exclusively for track use.

The adjustable footpegs are part of the SP features.

Electronics with DVO and a large TFT display

A six-axis IMU forms the basis of the electronics package. It includes Race eCBS with cornering function, Ducati Slide Control, the DQS 2.0 quickshifter as well as Dynamic Engine Brake and Race Brake Control. Traction control, wheelie control and Ducati Power Launch use DVO functions of the Ducati Vehicle Observer. Five riding modes are available for setup: Race A, Race B, Sport, Road and Wet. Quick-select buttons are meant to make changes easier. Information is shown on a new 6.9-inch TFT in 8:3 format. Full LED lighting with DRL and integrated front indicators is standard, and the bike is prepped for Ducati Data Logger and Ducati Multimedia System.

Winter Test with aluminium tank and serial number

The Winter Test livery is inspired by the Ducati Corse bikes at MotoGP and WorldSBK pre-season testing. Matt black fairing and carbon wheels meet the visibly brushed aluminium tank and red accents. A dedicated seat with V4 SP logo and a carbon front mudguard are part of the package. The sequential serial number sits on the machined steering head area. For track conversion, Ducati supplies covers for the mirror mounts and the number plate holder, plus an open carbon clutch cover. The press release also mentions a machined aluminium fuel cap. The covers and the open clutch cover are intended exclusively for closed circuits and not for public roads.

Akrapovič accessories and March market launch

As an accessory, Ducati offers a full titanium Ducati Performance track exhaust system developed with Akrapovič. Its high-mounted silencers sit alongside the tail. The revised system is meant to combine extra power with lower noise, also allowing use at tracks with strict noise limits. Ducati quotes a gain of eleven hp and seven Nm, as well as 180.4 kg wet weight without fuel in this configuration. This figure applies to the racing version and should be kept separate from the standard weight. Power and torque figures are manufacturer data. Ducati points out that production tolerances, ambient conditions, fuel, maintenance, run-in condition and measurement method, among other factors, affect the results, so readings from other dynos may not be directly comparable.

The Panigale V4 SP arrives at Ducati dealers in Europe from March 2027 in the Winter Test livery. It is delivered as a single-seater, with a pillion kit available as an accessory.
