Back to big wheels, but with a different drivetrain: Yamaha returns to the big-wheel segment with the XENTER E. The new electric scooter for 2027 sits in the A1 class and is intended as an alternative to the 125cc city scooter. The focus is on everyday trips to work, to the shops and around town. Yamaha builds on more than 40 years of scooter experience and places the model in the context of its Environmental Plan 2050, which targets net-zero emissions across the supply chain and a reduced environmental impact from production through to recycling.

Yamaha XENTER E: 7.5 kW and belt drive
For the drivetrain, Yamaha relies on a compact eAxle unit. It combines an air-cooled interior permanent magnet synchronous motor, IPMSM for short, with the motor controller and a primary reduction gearbox. The manufacturer quotes peak output of 7.5 kW at 3,500 rpm, with maximum torque of 33.3 Nm at 500 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a belt. This is meant to give the XENTER E strong, linear acceleration while keeping it quiet on the move. Yamaha also promises low running and maintenance costs and points to its existing dealer network.

Power is sent to the rear wheel via a belt.
The drive unit is fixed to the frame. Together with the central positioning of the battery, this is intended to centralise mass and reduce unsprung mass. It also allows the use of a separate, motorcycle-style swingarm. According to Yamaha, this design should deliver direct, agile and easily controllable riding performance.
Yamaha XENTER E: Battery and 108 km range
The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 3.5 kWh and is L-shaped. It sits centrally in the chassis close to the seat. This shape frees up space for the underseat storage compartment and a wide, low and flat floorboard. The battery is IP67-rated against water and dust, and a robust casing is designed to protect it from obstacles such as kerbs and speed bumps. The battery management system monitors voltage, current and temperature.
So how far does it go? Yamaha quotes up to 108 km according to WMTC1, measured at a battery temperature of 25 °C. That puts the XENTER E squarely on target for typical daily urban commutes. Housing the battery and drive low and centrally in the newly developed, lightweight underbone frame is also meant to support both stability and nimble handling.
Yamaha XENTER E: Charging via Type 2 and household socket
An 800-watt on-board charger is integrated for charging. The connector sits in a side compartment and allows connection to Type 2 AC charging stations for cars. With the dedicated home charging cable, a regular household socket can also be used, although Yamaha refers to the precautions in the owner's manual. For a charge from zero to 100 percent, the manufacturer quotes 5.5 hours under the stated conditions of 25 °C battery temperature and 200 volts. The charger works without a fan and should therefore charge particularly quietly.

The side-mounted port lets the XENTER E connect to Type 2 AC charging stations.
In parallel, Yamaha is introducing the YOU Charge service. Through partnerships with national charging network operators, it aims to make access to public charging points easier, with various subscriptions and tariffs. The subscription will be available from official Yamaha partners, and the associated charging pass can then be activated immediately. The first countries are set to launch in early 2027, with further key European e-mobility markets following over the course of the year.
Yamaha XENTER E: Big wheels, ABS and suspension
The XENTER E rolls on 16-inch wheels front and rear. Tyre sizes are 100/80-16 at the front and 120/80-16 at the rear. Yamaha quotes 100 mm of suspension travel at the front and 97 mm at the rear. Combined with the separate swingarm, the concept is meant to offer comfort and stability on uneven roads. The manufacturer explicitly names cobblestones and tram tracks as typical challenges of urban use.

Up front, Yamaha pairs a 16-inch wheel with a 245 mm disc brake and ABS.
Braking is handled by 245 mm disc brakes with ABS on both wheels. On top of that comes the regenerative braking function of the electric drive. Its setup adapts to the selected riding mode and is designed to mimic the engine braking of a conventional combustion-engined scooter. Yamaha is aiming for natural and easily controllable deceleration.
Yamaha XENTER E: Room for rider and luggage
A commuter scooter also has to cope with shopping and everyday life. The XENTER E combines a wheelbase of 1,485 mm with a seat height of 790 mm, an upright riding position and a flat floorboard. According to Yamaha, handlebar height, handlebar width and distance to the seat are designed for a natural posture and a good overview. The flat step-through is meant to make getting on and off easier and offer freedom of movement, while the generous steering lock is meant to help with manoeuvring in city traffic.

According to Yamaha, a full-face helmet fits under the seat depending on its size and shape.
According to the manufacturer, a full-face helmet can be stored under the seat, depending on its size and shape. Alternatively, the compartment swallows shopping and personal items. Up front there is additional small storage space with a USB-C charging socket. A folding bag hook in the knee area rounds off the carrying options. A smart key ignition system is also part of the features.
Yamaha XENTER E: TFT, riding modes and reverse
The 5-inch colour TFT display offers day and night modes. The speedometer sits in the centre, with the smartphone connectivity icons to its left. Information on battery output, state of charge and regeneration completes the display. A power visualiser shows acceleration and deceleration with a moving needle. Via the Yamaha Motor On app, turn-by-turn navigation is added, along with information on battery status, service intervals and parking. Riding data and trip statistics can also be accessed.

The Yamaha Motor On app provides navigation and trip statistics, among other things.
Three riding modes are available. S is designed for the quickest acceleration, while T combines performance with softer throttle response. E reduces acceleration and top speed in favour of range. Traction control rounds off the rider aids. The Accelerator Position Sensor Grip, APSG for short, progressively increases resistance at the twistgrip and is meant to provide clearer feedback.
The electric drive also helps when parking. Press the REVERSE button on the left and the MODE button on the right of the handlebar at the same time, and the scooter reverses at walking pace. There is no need to touch the throttle. This should make manoeuvring possible even in tight spaces while keeping both feet on the ground.

Yamaha XENTER: A combustion-engined concept too
Alongside the electric production model, Yamaha is showing the combustion-engined big-wheel concept XENTER at EICMA 2026 in Milan. It is also aimed at newcomers and combines simple twist-and-go operation with ABS and traction control. Yamaha puts comfort, style and practicality for town and surrounding areas front and centre. The big-wheel concept is intended to support stability and rider confidence, especially on uneven roads, cobblestones and tram tracks.
