In 1979, the Yamaha XT500 won the first Paris-Dakar Rally, and in 1982 the XT600 Ténéré was unveiled. More than four decades later, Yamaha is looking ahead to the next chapter of the family with the Ténéré 4 Concept. The premiere takes place at the Redefine the Standard event in Milan. Behind it is an ongoing development project for a lightweight A2-class adventure bike. Yamaha cites strong customer demand as the reason and announces that it will continue to expand its adventure model range in the coming years.

Yamaha Ténéré 4 Concept with a new single-cylinder engine
At the heart of it all is a brand-new single-cylinder engine. Yamaha promises high combustion efficiency, strong torque in the low to mid rev range and usable power at high revs. The engine is meant to combine performance, agility and controllability. The direction is clear: the Ténéré 4 Concept is set to become an accessible adventure bike that appeals to experienced off-road fans as much as to people who are only just discovering this world for themselves. The single is a central building block of the A2 concept.

A newly developed single forms the heart of the concept.
Yamaha Ténéré 4 Concept: frame and chassis
The frame is also newly developed. According to Yamaha, it is designed to combine high strength with low weight, laying the foundation for versatile use on the road and on demanding trails. The promised ease of handling runs through the entire concept: anyone wanting to explore difficult terrain should gain more confidence doing so. According to the manufacturer, decades of adventure experience and the know-how of the Ténéré siblings form the basis for this.

KYB suspension is part of the off-road features on show.
On the chassis side, Yamaha presents KYB suspension front and rear. These are paired with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels fitted with Michelin Anakee Wild tyres. This combination fits the announced off-road focus. The compact Akrapovič exhaust system is made of titanium and is also part of the concept's features as shown. Yamaha is thus presenting a concept in which off-road capability is explicitly part of the development brief.
Yamaha Ténéré 4 Concept with a slim silhouette
Visually, the concept relies on a flat, low-slung tank shape and a slim silhouette, picking up on the family's rally roots. Yamaha describes the design as purpose-driven, combining functional technology with rugged engineering. The manufacturer explicitly names the Tenere 700 as the source of experience. Rider-centred ergonomics are intended to contribute to the desired agility and accessibility. The look to the future thus remains closely tied to the Ténéré's origins.
