With a manufacturer’s first ATV, I’d normally expect far more teething problems. That’s exactly why the Redstone 550 surprised me. It’s large and, as a result, not the most manoeuvrable machine in tight woodland, but when it comes to stability, challenging ascents, driving on slopes or higher speeds, it’s precisely this size that comes into its own. Added to this are a solid suspension system, a well-designed four-wheel-drive system and an unusually generous range of standard equipment. The criticisms mainly concern practical minor details such as the NFC keycard and the lack of a storage compartment. In any case, for work, the woodland and leisure, the Redstone is far more than just an interesting Chinese ATV – it’s a tool to be taken seriously.
