The Yamaha Niken is a bike that many have judged too quickly. Yes, it looks a bit odd. Yes, it’s heavy. Yes, in the long run, the front end demands more attention than a standard bike. But it works. It handles surprisingly much like a conventional bike, offers good ergonomics and inspires confidence where other bikes require the rider to work harder. It’s particularly interesting on the second-hand market, as the small market and limited demand can keep prices down.

In my eyes, the KTM is the sportiest of all mid-range touring enduros. If you are looking for a touring machine that is brutally nippy on road and off-road, you will find it here. At the same time, however, the chassis and engine offer sufficient comfort and good manners to keep the rider from going mad even on longer liaison stages.
