Le segment des motos de tourisme s'est considérablement assoupli en matière de motorisation - à côté des deux cylindres typiques, il existe déjà des quatre cylindres en forme de R et de V, et Triumph doit désormais partager la caractéristique unique du trois cylindres en ligne avec deux autres constructeurs (MV Agusta Turismo Veloce et Yamaha Tracer 900). Sur la Tiger Explorer XRx, le gros moteur trois cylindres de 1215 centimètres cubes est en tout cas très puissant, tout en étant très cultivé. La sonorité déjà fait comprendre qu'il s'agit de quelque chose de différent et avec 140 CV, la grande tigresse n'est pas du tout sous-motorisée. Et grâce à la bonne réactivité, les virages serrés ne posent aucun problème malgré le poids imposant. En ce qui concerne le confort, on ne peut rien reprocher à la version XRx bien équipée.
