La Yamaha MT-09 SP avait déjà la vie facile dans la génération précédente, puisqu'il s'agit d'une variante encore plus raffinée d'une machine de plaisir déjà très bonne, car délicieusement agile ! La version SP actuelle ne déroge pas à la règle, mais elle a encore été améliorée dans son ensemble. Un peu plus de puissance, un couple plus élevé et une électronique mieux réglée donnent encore plus de plaisir. Comme on pouvait s'y attendre, le châssis avec des composants KYB et Öhlins plus nobles fonctionne parfaitement, le freinage pourrait être un peu plus incisif, mais la position de conduite correspond toujours à ce que l'on attend d'une telle machine de plaisir agile et facile à contrôler. Les quelques bizarreries comme le petit écran TFT ou le masque lumineux controversé ne la rendent pas moins bonne, mais en font simplement une personnalité encore plus indépendante !

On peut toujours discuter de l'esthétique et de l'absence de cadre tubulaire en treillis, mais la Monster actuelle est tout sauf laide. En principe, elle serait une excellente moto de tous les jours, avec une ergonomie agréable et un système de freinage qui ne surprendrait pas les non-initiés. Même le châssis très souple peut être considéré comme un compromis acceptable, mais pour une Ducati, on s'étonne qu'au moins la fourche avant n'ait pas été configurée de manière un peu plus ferme. Malheureusement, le moteur charismatique se cabre fortement à bas régime et ne révèle son magnifique caractère de V2 que sur la route. Mais dans l'ensemble, cela reflète très bien l'image globale de la Monster : une Ducati typique qui, en termes de châssis et de freins, peut aussi être utilisée pour la conduite quotidienne.
