Yamaha MT-10 2017 vs. Yamaha MT-09 2021

The Yamaha MT-10 2017 and the Yamaha MT-09 2021 are both naked bikes from Yamaha, but they have some key differences in terms of their technical specifications and strengths.

In terms of their engines, the Yamaha MT-10 2017 has a more powerful engine with 160 HP compared to the Yamaha MT-09 2021's 119 HP. The MT-10 also has higher torque at 111 Nm compared to the MT-09's 93 Nm. Both bikes have an inline engine type, fuel injection systems, and liquid cooling.

In terms of suspension, both bikes have upside-down telescopic forks for the front suspension and swing arms for the rear suspension. They also both have monoshock shock absorbers. The chassis of both bikes is made of aluminum, but the MT-10 has a Deltabox frame while the MT-09 has a Twin Tube frame.

Both bikes have double disk brakes at the front with the MT-10 having a larger diameter of 320 mm compared to the MT-09's 298 mm. Both bikes also have advanced rider assistance systems such as ABS and traction control. However, the MT-09 2021 also has a quickshifter, which the MT-10 2017 does not have.

In terms of dimensions and weights, both bikes have a front tire width of 120 mm and a front tire diameter of 17 inches. The MT-10 has a wider rear tire at 190 mm compared to the MT-09's 180 mm. Both bikes have a wheelbase, seat height, and fuel tank capacity that are relatively similar, with the MT-09 having a slightly longer wheelbase of 1430 mm compared to the MT-10's 1400 mm. The MT-09 also has a smaller fuel tank capacity of 14 liters compared to the MT-10's 17 liters. The MT-09 is also lighter with a kerb weight of 189 kg compared to the MT-10's 210 kg.

In terms of strengths, the MT-10 2017 is praised for its great sound, pleasant wind protection, comfortable seating position even on long tours, great engine response, and balanced overall package despite its radical looks and wicked sound. On the other hand, the MT-09 2021 is praised for its lack of load change reactions, even more pressure from the center, over-complete electronics package, great working quickshifter, comfortably integrated seating position, successful chassis, lively handling, and enormous riding pleasure.

However, the MT-10 2017 does have some weaknesses, including a too inactive seating position on the racetrack and chassis and ride assistance systems that are sufficient for track days but not on the same level as other Powernakeds. The MT-09 2021 also has some weaknesses, including a polarizing look, a small TFT display, somewhat indirect front wheel feel, and cruise control only being available in the SP variant.
