Development for the Supermoto Segment

The ContiAttack SM 2's unique selling point lies in its special focus on the supermoto segment. Unlike conventional road or touring tires, which often fail to meet the demands of supermoto riders or the requirements of these bikes, this tire was developed entirely from scratch.

Plenty of Technology in the New Supermoto Tire

The ContiAttack SM 2 has been equipped with new technologies. The GripLimitFeedback technology provides precise feedback on the tire's friction state, resulting in more control and confidence at high lean angles. RainGrip offers optimal wet grip, while the BlackChili Compound ensures improved grip and higher mileage. In addition to the new features, the ContiAttack SM 2 also boasts proven technologies such as MultiGrip and TractionSkin, which provide consistent performance and secure grip. The 0° steel belt construction also ensures stability at high speeds.

The ContiAttack SM 2 will be available starting in the first quarter of 2024. Initially, it will be offered in the dimensions 120/70 R 17 (front) and 160/60 R 17 (rear). Later in the year, additional dimensions such as 110/70 R 17 (front) as well as 140/70 R 17 and 150/60 R 17 (rear) will become available.

Supermoto Support from Continental

To demonstrate its capabilities in advance, Conti put the SM 2 through its paces on their in-house test track, where it performed significantly better than its predecessor in both dry and wet conditions. So much for the facts and figures. For our test, we had support from Raphael Michels, who knows not only the tire but also the supermoto world. Product Manager for the ContiAttack SM 2 during the week, he attacks race tracks on weekends as part of the German Supermoto Championship. Drawing on his experience, he submitted his wish list for this tire to Conti's developers, which is why the SM 2 can rightfully be called his baby.

Raphael Michels was an important figure in the development of the ContiAttack SM 2.

First Impressions with the ContiAttack SM 2

As soon as the tire was mounted on our test bikes (KTM 690 SMC-R and Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono), the corner-carving began. Thanks to Conti's TractionSkin, which forgoes release agents on the tire surface, the SM 2 is ready to go immediately after a short warm-up phase - no break-in required! On the best roads around Barcelona, which form a seemingly endless corner paradise, we did just that. The ContiAttack SM 2 offered perfect grip and transparent feedback throughout, allowing us to move the ultra-agile bikes stably and confidently from radius to radius. There was never a moment of doubt as to whether the lean angle might be too extreme - the SM 2 held the line! The tire clearly shows that it was developed for the supermoto class. As if that joy weren't enough, it topped things off with a gorgeous tire wear pattern.

Conclusion: Continental's New Supermoto Tire

Calling our time with the ContiAttack SM 2 a full test would be inaccurate. Under perfect conditions and on track-like asphalt, the dry performance was undoubtedly convincing. The tire really sticks to the tarmac! However, we only rode the tire for four days before it and the bikes had to go back to their rightful owners - the dealers and importers. So we can't make any statements regarding the roughly 30 percent increase in mileage or the improved wet performance. That would require a long-term test, one that would probably be fought over in the 1000PS editorial office. Because the ContiAttack SM 2 has shown us that supermotos are the most fun bikes out there - when they're on the right tire.

Further information and the dimension overview for the ContiAttack SM 2 can be found on the Continental website. The prices for the ContiAttack SM 2 are available from Zweiradprofi.
