Slapping race-team graphics on a special edition is easy. With the 250 SX-F Factory Edition and the 450 SX-F Factory Edition for 2027, KTM digs deeper into the technology: according to the manufacturer, the two mx bikes mark the start of a new generation. Lessons learned from working with the race teams and athletes in MXGP and AMA SuperMotocross are flowing into the production models. At the same time, the Factory Editions are meant to offer a taste of the 2028 SX model family.

KTM SX-F Factory Editions 2027: New Foundation for 250 and 450
New frame, new 250 engine and 63.8 hp for the 450
More than a new graphics kit: for their two motocross special editions, the Mattighofen crew has reworked the frame, chassis and ergonomics. The 250 gets a new engine, while the 450 ups its power. What's in the Factory package?

KTM SX-F Factory Editions: frame and chassis
When it comes to the chassis, KTM starts at the foundation. A newly developed, lighter frame brings revised geometry, specifically tuned flex characteristics, reworked steering heads and new engine mounting points. The engineers focused on reducing weight and optimising mass distribution. The aluminium subframe is also new and, according to KTM, the lightest subframe the brand has ever put into series production. On top of that come redesigned CNC-machined triple clamps and the option to extend the wheelbase.

The WP XACT Closed Cartridge fork and the matching shock have also been revised. Together with the new frame, they are designed to improve agility, stability, riding precision and traction. KTM also promises better responsiveness across a wider operating range and predictable feedback in varying track conditions. So the development theme isn't simply less weight, but also how it's distributed and how the components work together.
KTM SX-F Factory Editions: more freedom of movement
To let you move around on the bike more freely, the bodywork is slimmer. At the same time, the contact surfaces in the knee area have grown. A new seat and optimised footpegs round off the revised ergonomics. According to KTM, this should improve the connection between rider and bike as well as control in demanding race situations. The lighter NEKEN handlebar also offers two mounting positions for individual adjustment.

The slimmer bodywork and enlarged knee contact surfaces are part of the new ergonomics.
KTM 250 SX-F Factory Edition: new engine
The changes to the 250 are particularly extensive. Its newly developed engine combines an oval throttle body with oval intake ports, a top-feed injector and a completely new valvetrain. The compression ratio rises to 15.5:1, and the rev limit sits at 14,500 rpm. According to KTM, this puts the rev ceiling on par with current factory bikes from MXGP and AMA SuperMotocross. The manufacturer promises more power for the 250.

The 250 SX-F Factory Edition 2027 gets a newly developed engine with a 14,500 rpm rev limit.
The engine also sits 2.3 mm higher in the frame. KTM cites this change as a measure for improved mass centralisation and more precise handling. The new exhaust system is also among the changes with which the brand aims to sharpen power delivery, torque and throttle response on the Factory Editions.
KTM 450 SX-F Factory Edition: 63.8 hp
For the 450, KTM provides concrete key data: peak power rises to 63.8 hp at 10,000 rpm, while maximum torque is 52 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Engine, intake system and electronics are tuned to work together, as are the ECU and fuel management. This is meant to make the extra power controllable and efficiently usable under race conditions. For KTM, then, what also matters is how the power can be put to use.

For the 450, KTM quotes 63.8 hp at 10,000 rpm and 52 Nm at 7,000 rpm.
KTM SX-F Factory Editions: electronics and gearbox
A lighter yet more robust gearbox is designed to deliver more precise, smoother shifts. KTM also links these changes to easier line choice and getting through deep ruts. On top of that comes a new Engine Management System. Its more powerful ECU processes sensor data faster and works with further developed control algorithms. According to the manufacturer, this allows ignition, fuel metering and gear-specific maps to be controlled more precisely. The quickshifter also benefits from the electronics and is said to enable faster and more accurate gear changes.
KTM SX-F Factory Editions: features and servicing
The Factory package includes EXCEL wheels with a new spoke pattern and a new pad compound for the Brembo rear brake. The latter is meant to deliver a more consistent and more controllable braking feel. Alongside Brembo, NEKEN and EXCEL, KTM also names WP PRO COMPONENTS, ODI and Selle Dalla Valle as suppliers involved. The factory-inspired design is also part of the special editions' concept.

The EXCEL wheels get a new spoke pattern.
And what happens between motos? With the new developments, KTM places emphasis on quick trackside servicing and easy maintenance. Maintenance instructions are placed directly on the bike. The hour meter sits in a new, more accessible position and is meant to simplify maintenance planning. An optimised cooling system, a completely new airbox and the revised exhaust system complete the technical changes.
