With the BMW S 1000 R, you notice both the close relationship to the S 1000 RR superbike and the endeavour to equip the machine with a high degree of comfort for country roads and everyday use. Accordingly, the 1000cc four-cylinder power unit is brute and yet easily controllable, and the seating position is correspondingly sporty and comfortable. The fact that the S 1000 R is one of the most affordable power naked bikes is surprising and very pleasing, although one must not get hold of the list of optional extras - because thanks to the many irresistible features, it will certainly be more expensive.

Težava motorja Streetfighter V4 S z motorjem Euro4, ki ni imel moči v spodnjem območju vrtljajev, v zgornjem območju pa je bil eksploziven, je bila s posodobitvijo na Euro5 v veliki meri odpravljena. Čeprav je odvratnih 208 KM še vedno na voljo le pri 13.000 vrtljajih na minuto, SF V4 S zdaj sprejemljivo deluje tudi pri nižjih vrtljajih. Elektronsko vzmetenje Öhlins je na vrhuncu svojih zmogljivosti, brutalni zavorniki Brembo Stylema pa znova slavijo naklonjenost do dirkališča. Tudi ergonomija in vodljivost sta v osnovi dobri, vendar bi si na dirkališču zaradi izjemne moči želeli nižje krmilo. Popoln pozerski motocikel, ki se obnese tudi na podeželski cesti in vseeno na dirkališču. Le preglasen zvok bi bilo treba nekoliko omejiti.
