Yamaha XSR900 je klasična optična iluzija - s svojim okroglim žarometom, oglatim rezervoarjem in pritrjeno zadnjo lučjo se očitno zdi, da gre za retro motorno kolo. Vendar ni naključje, da po zmogljivostih spominja na zmogljiv naked bike srednjega razreda Yamaha MT-09, ki je izjemno športna osnova za model XSR900. Popolnoma nastavljivo vzmetenje Öhlins (vključno z vilico v barvi švedskega zlata!) odlično izpolnjuje svoj namen, zavorni sistem Brembo Stylema se oprijema silovito, vendar ne neprijetno, položaj sedenja z nekoliko večjim nagibom naprej pa je športen, a še vedno udoben. Tudi motor se zelo dobro ujema s konceptom zelo športnega golega motocikla srednjega razreda - želi se vrteti in v zgornjem delu zagotavlja največjo moč. Če iščete pomanjkljivost pri modelu Monster SP, je to najverjetneje trzanje motorja V2 pri nizkih vrtljajih, vendar to pravih ljubiteljev motorja V2 90° sploh ne bo užalilo. Tudi cena ni problematična, saj Italijani za zmogljivost različice SP plačujejo precej visoko ceno.
