Triumph Speed Triple RS 2018 vs. Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS 2022

The Triumph Speed Triple RS 2018 and the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS 2022 are both naked bikes from Triumph, but they have some notable differences.

Starting with the engine and drivetrain, both models have an inline 3-cylinder engine with liquid cooling and fuel injection. However, the Speed Triple 1200 RS 2022 has a larger displacement of 1160cc compared to the 1050cc of the Speed Triple RS 2018. This results in a higher power output of 180 HP for the 2022 model, compared to 150 HP for the 2018 model. The torque is also higher in the 2022 model, with 125 Nm compared to 117 Nm in the 2018 model.

In terms of suspension, both models feature a telescopic upside-down fork at the front and a single-sided swingarm with a monoshock at the rear. The suspension components are from Öhlins in both models, and they offer adjustable compression, preload, and rebound settings. The material used for the rear suspension is aluminum in both models.

The chassis of both bikes is made of aluminum and features a twin-tube frame design. This provides a good balance between rigidity and weight.

For braking, both models have dual disc brakes at the front with a diameter of 320mm and four-piston calipers. The braking technology is radial and monobloc, and the brakes are from Brembo.

In terms of advanced rider assistance systems, both models have ABS, riding modes, ride-by-wire, and traction control. However, the Speed Triple 1200 RS 2022 also features cornering ABS, which enhances safety during cornering.

In terms of dimensions and weight, both models have the same tire widths and diameters, with a front tire width of 120mm and a rear tire width of 190mm, both with a diameter of 17 inches. The wheelbase is also the same at 1445mm. However, the seat height is slightly higher in the Speed Triple 1200 RS 2022, measuring 830mm compared to 825mm in the Speed Triple RS 2018. Both models have a fuel tank capacity of 15.5 liters.

In terms of strengths, the Speed Triple RS 2018 offers new technology, functional electronic aids, a more developed and proven engine, more power and speed, a high-quality chassis, many adjustable options, a comfortable seating position, and many optional equipment choices.

On the other hand, the Speed Triple 1200 RS 2022 offers incredible versatility, being able to easily navigate city traffic while also being very fast when needed. It has a powerful and rev-happy engine, a top-notch gearbox, the ability to be ridden quietly when necessary, light and compact handling, stable handling even in fast corners, strong brakes, and precise handling.

As for weaknesses, the Speed Triple RS 2018 lacks a windshield, has a high weight, and limited ground clearance. The Speed Triple 1200 RS 2022 has a good but not perfect gear lever, the sound is still somewhat intrusive, and there are still vibrations in the handlebars.
