De grote Vmax van Yamaha is een unieke motor. Dit geldt zowel voor de technische Bladzijde, met de grootste V4 motor in een motor aller tijden, als voor de emotionele Bladzijde van bestuurder van de Vmax. Er zijn maar weinig motoren die in elke rijsituatie zo'n brute ronken kunnen bieden en nog minder zijn cruisers. Hoewel het koppige bochtengedrag afbreuk doet aan het rijplezier, de zitpositie nogal krap is en het geluid meer zou kunnen zeggen over de enorme Verschuiving, is de aandrijving verslavend. De Vmax 1700 is absoluut een nicheproduct, maar ook een absoluut ontzagwekkende, unieke motor.
