De BMW S 1000 XR biedt een aangename toermotor op basis van een supersport. Het klinkt als een compromis, maar het rijdt als een doelgerichte ontwikkeling. De motor is praktisch en volwassen. De wind- en weerbescherming zijn zeer goed, de integratie van de mobiele telefoon is goed getest en intuïtief en de motor is gewoon altijd een genot om op te rijden. Hoewel de Wielophanging zich goed aanpast aan de belasting, wordt hij nooit echt gevoelig of comfortabel. Het zitcomfort is goed, maar de kniehoek wordt een beetje scherp op lange tochten. Desondanks is het een geweldige motor voor sportief bestuurder maar ook voor lange afstanden.
