Pros and Cons in comparison

KTM 690 SMC R 2024

KTM 690 SMC R 2024

A large, powerful single cylinder, a stable chassis, just over 160 kg of tractive weight and modern electronics for support - the key data alone suggests a lot of riding pleasure. In 2024, the SMC-R may be a little dusty in some respects and is no longer the undisputed queen of road-legal supermotos, but it can still offer a lot of supermoto fun and performance.

Powerful engine

Electronics can support safety or supermoto manoeuvres as required

Stable, fully adjustable suspension

Agile riding performance

Good ergonomics

Low fuel consumption

Great quickshifter

Old LC display and halogen headlights no longer up to date

Suspension could absorb small bumps more harmoniously

Brakes not overly sensitive

Yamaha R9 2025

Yamaha R9 2025

Even though the R9 has not become an uncompromising R6, it has a sporty character and performs well even on the race track and is a lot of fun to ride. Beginners will probably find it even easier to get to grips with on the track than an R6. On the other hand, the R9 with its high-torque engine and more relaxed riding position is much more suitable for everyday use, even if it naturally does not achieve the riding comfort of an MT09. And Yamaha has already shown that the new bike can also perform well on the race track with its opening victory in the Supersport World Championship. With its A2 suitability and favourable entry-level price, Yamaha has created a new approach to the everyday supersport bike, which is certainly also interesting for beginners.
