Overview - Yamaha XSR700 2022 vs Yamaha MT-09 2023

The Yamaha XSR700 2022 and the Yamaha MT-09 2023 are both naked bikes from Yamaha, but they have several differences in terms of technical specifications and strengths.

Starting with the engine, the Yamaha XSR700 2022 is equipped with an in-line 2-cylinder engine that produces 73.4 HP of power and 67 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Yamaha MT-09 2023 features an in-line 3-cylinder engine with a higher power output of 119 HP and torque of 93 Nm. This indicates that the MT-09 has a more powerful engine compared to the XSR700.

In terms of cooling, both bikes have liquid-cooled engines. However, the XSR700 has a displacement of 689 ccm, while the MT-09 has a larger displacement of 889 ccm. This suggests that the MT-09 may offer better performance and acceleration due to its larger engine size.

Moving on to the suspension, the XSR700 is equipped with a telescopic fork front suspension and a swing arm rear suspension with a monoshock absorber. Similarly, the MT-09 also features a swing arm rear suspension with a monoshock absorber, but it has an upside-down telescopic fork front suspension. This indicates that the MT-09 may provide better handling and stability compared to the XSR700.

In terms of the chassis, the XSR700 has a steel frame, while the MT-09 has an aluminum frame. An aluminum frame is generally lighter and more rigid, which can contribute to better handling and maneuverability. Therefore, the MT-09 may have an advantage in terms of chassis performance.

Both bikes have double disk front brakes with a diameter of 298 mm. This suggests that they have similar braking capabilities and performance. Additionally, both bikes are equipped with ABS as an advanced rider assistance system, which enhances safety during braking.

In terms of dimensions and weights, the XSR700 has a wheelbase of 1405 mm and a seat height of 835 mm. It has a kerb weight of 188 kg and a fuel tank capacity of 14 liters. On the other hand, the MT-09 has a slightly longer wheelbase of 1430 mm and a lower seat height of 825 mm. It has a kerb weight of 189 kg and the same fuel tank capacity of 14 liters. These differences in dimensions and weights are relatively minor and may not significantly impact the overall performance of the bikes.

In terms of strengths, the XSR700 is praised for its successful design, proven CP2 engine, comfortable seating position, and versatility for various road situations. Similarly, the MT-09 is praised for its lack of load change reactions, strong power delivery, comprehensive electronics package, efficient quickshifter, comfortable seating position, well-designed chassis, lively handling, and overall riding pleasure.

However, the XSR700 has some weaknesses, including a difficult-to-read display, relatively soft chassis, and limited lean angle clearance. On the other hand, the MT-09 has some weaknesses such as polarizing optics, a small TFT display, somewhat indirect front wheel feel, and the absence of cruise control in the non-SP variant.

In conclusion, while both the Yamaha XSR700 2022 and the Yamaha MT-09 2023 are naked bikes from Yamaha, they have significant differences in terms of engine power, suspension, chassis, and strengths. The MT-09 offers more power, a larger displacement, better suspension, and a more advanced electronics package compared to the XSR700. However, the XSR700 may have an advantage in terms of design, seating position, and versatility. Ultimately, the choice between the two bikes depends on the rider's preferences and priorities.

Yamaha XSR700 2022

Yamaha XSR700 2022

Can do everything but nothing well? A clear NO! The lively and agile retro bike with a sufficiently powerful engine can be a good all-rounder, which also looks good and tempts you to heat up the curves. Overall, the bike is fantastically manageable and sporty for me, even as a woman. The engine works better than expected and the seating position is more than comfortable. However, there is still room for improvement in terms of lean angle. I think that many people will continue to choose this bike because you simply can't go far wrong.

Yamaha MT-09 2023

Yamaha MT-09 2023

If you take a look at the key data of the MT-09, including its over-complete standard equipment, "mid-range naked bike" almost sounds a little pejorative. The Japanese engineers have made improvements exactly where they were needed. The swaying chassis is now a thing of the past and the load change reactions have also been eliminated from the revised three-cylinder engine. The additional power paired with a little more pressure in the mid-range gives a sovereign riding feeling. The MT-09 offers a lot of equipment and enormous riding pleasure at a very attractive price.

no load change reactions

plenty of pressure from the centre

over-complete electronics package

great working quickshifter

comfortably integrated seating position

successful chassis

lively handling

enormous riding pleasure

Polarising optics

small TFT display

somewhat indirect front wheel feel

cruise control only available in SP variant
