The Ducati Monster SP 2023 and the Ducati Monster 1200 S 2020 are both naked bikes from Ducati, known for their powerful performance and stylish design. While they share some similarities, there are also notable differences between the two models.

Starting with the engine and drivetrain, the Ducati Monster SP 2023 is equipped with a V-twin engine that delivers 111 horsepower and 93 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Ducati Monster 1200 S 2020 features a more powerful engine, producing 147 horsepower and 126.2 Nm of torque. This gives the Monster 1200 S an advantage in terms of raw power.

In terms of suspension, both models feature upside-down telescopic forks at the front, with Öhlins being the brand of choice. However, the Ducati Monster SP 2023 offers more adjustability with compression, preload, and rebound settings for both the front and rear suspension. The Monster 1200 S 2020 also features Öhlins suspension but lacks the same level of adjustability.

The chassis of the Ducati Monster SP 2023 is made of aluminum and has a load-bearing engine design, which contributes to its overall lightweight construction. In contrast, the Monster 1200 S 2020 has a steel frame with a tubular design. The aluminum frame of the Monster SP 2023 provides better handling and maneuverability.

Ducati Monster SP 2023

Ducati Monster SP 2023

The SP version is clearly the more expensive, but also clearly the better Ducati Monster. Everything fits together perfectly, because it is typically Ducati sporty. The fully adjustable Öhlins suspension (including the fork in Swedish gold!) fulfils its purpose perfectly, the Brembo Stylema braking system grips vehemently but not unpleasantly and the seating position, with its slightly more forward lean, is sporty but still comfortable. Even the engine fits very well into the concept of the very sporty mid-range naked bike - it wants to be revved and delivers the most power at the top end. If you are looking for a flaw in the Monster SP, it is most likely the jerking of the V2 at low revs, but true fans of the 90° V2 engine will not be offended by this at all. The price is not a problem either, as the Italians pay a pretty high price for the performance of the SP version.

Ducati Monster 1200 S 2020

Ducati Monster 1200 S 2020

The Ducati Monster generates a whopping 147 hp and a powerful 124 Nm of torque from the 1200 cc water-cooled Testastretta twin cylinder. This means you are more than just well motorised in every situation on the country road! The overall concept of a light ready-to-ride total weight of 213 kg in combination with high-quality Öhlins suspension and top assistance systems makes the machine an almost perfect naked bike. Classic, timeless design paired with modern components make this Italo beauty an "insider tip" in times of 200 hp + hyper naked bike rockets! Small compromises have to be made with the wind protection and the quickshifter. The latter takes a little getting used to.

147 hp High-performance power unit with plenty of torque even at low revs

Fantastic electronic equipment, DTC, DWC, RbW and and and...

Driving modes and assistance systems are freely configurable

High-quality chassis and great seating position

Very coherent and harmonious overall concept - agile and manoeuvrable! Emotional Italo beauty!

The quickshifter requires a bit of sensitivity until you get the hang of it

wind load on the upper body increases noticeably from 130 km/h

a steering damper in the S variant would have been the icing on the cake
