Overview - Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2022 vs Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE 2019

The Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2022 and the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE 2019 are both popular enduro motorcycles with their own unique features and strengths.

Starting with the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2022, it boasts a powerful engine with 102 HP and 105 Nm of torque. This provides excellent acceleration and power for off-road adventures. The bike also features advanced rider assistance systems such as ABS, riding modes, cornering ABS, ride by wire, cruise control, traction control, and anti-wheelie. These electronic aids enhance safety and control while riding. The Africa Twin also comes with a durable steel frame and a double cradle frame type, ensuring stability and durability. The suspension system consists of a Showa upside-down telescopic fork in the front and a Showa monoshock in the rear, both of which offer adjustable compression, preload, and rebound settings. This allows riders to fine-tune the suspension for their specific preferences and riding conditions. The bike also features a large fuel tank capacity of 18.8 liters, ideal for long-distance rides. Additional equipment includes Bluetooth, connectivity, LED headlights, and a TFT display, providing convenience and modern features.

On the other hand, the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE 2019 stands out with its beautiful exterior design and high-quality components. It is equipped with a 90 HP engine that delivers 110 Nm of torque, providing ample power and high-torque performance. The bike also features ABS, riding modes, ride by wire, and traction control, offering advanced rider assistance systems for enhanced safety and control. The Scrambler 1200 XE has a steel frame with a double cradle frame type, ensuring strength and stability. The suspension system consists of a Showa upside-down telescopic fork in the front and an Öhlins dual shock in the rear, both of which offer adjustable compression, preload, and rebound settings. This allows riders to customize the suspension to their liking and adapt to various terrains. The Scrambler 1200 XE also features a fuel tank capacity of 16 liters, slightly smaller than the Africa Twin. However, it compensates with its off-road capabilities and high-torque engine. The bike is also equipped with LED headlights, providing improved visibility during night rides.

While both bikes have their strengths, they also have some weaknesses. The Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2022 has an operating concept for its electronics that may not be very clear and intuitive for some riders. The handguards are also not very robust for off-road use, potentially limiting their effectiveness in protecting the rider's hands. The windshield offers manageable protection but may not provide sufficient coverage during off-road adventures. Additionally, the ergonomics of the Africa Twin may not be ideal for standing riding, which can be a disadvantage for off-road enthusiasts.

On the other hand, the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE 2019 has limited touring suitability, meaning it may not be as comfortable for long-distance rides compared to the Africa Twin. The bike's high seat height of 870 mm may also be problematic for smaller riders, making it more challenging to reach the ground. The Scrambler 1200 XE also has a somewhat tippy turn-in behavior, which may require riders to adjust their riding style. Lastly, the high-mounted exhaust on the Scrambler 1200 XE can potentially cause right leg burns, especially during extended off-road rides.

In conclusion, the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2022 and the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE 2019 are both impressive enduro motorcycles with their own unique features and strengths. The Africa Twin excels with its powerful engine, advanced electronic aids, and long-distance capability. On the other hand, the Scrambler 1200 XE stands out with its beautiful design, high-quality components, and off-road performance. Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2022

Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2022

For me, the Africa Twin is a touring enduro as a touring enduro should be. This was already true of the predecessor model and did not change with the increase in displacement and power. Because the latter remained manageable at 102 hp, and Honda even managed to shed a few kilos compared to the CRF1000L. So it remained versatile, functioning just as well on the motorway as off-road. The chassis absorbs almost all bumps, the engine remains sovereign in every situation, ergonomics and seating comfort are exemplary. A motorbike for all days as well as for the big trip - wherever that may be.

Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE 2019

Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE 2019

The Triumph is primarily a scrambler motorbike. And such a good one, in fact, that this wonderfully unreasonable and brutal fun machine can also be chased into difficult terrain. It reminds us why we love motorbikes: it provides great moments in the saddle, but also has practical disadvantages. Because off-road it is a mighty iron and can easily keep up with touring enduros, if not outdo them. With the lack of a windshield and limited space for luggage, it naturally loses out in terms of touring suitability. All in all, a fascinating motorbike that attracts a lot of attention.
