KTM 690 RALLY 2027: Rally bike with street-legal registration

KTM is expanding its LC4 family with a bike designed to fill an interesting gap. The KTM 690 RALLY 2027 is based on the KTM 690 Enduro R, but gets around 20 liters of tank volume, its own rally tower with windshield, and equipment clearly geared toward long-distance riding. KTM itself describes it as the spiritual successor to the 640 Adventure.

When it comes to the engine, the KTM 690 RALLY 2027 remains closely related to the 690 Enduro R. The liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine displaces 692.7 cc, produces 79 hp and delivers a maximum torque of 73 Nm. It shifts through six gears, with engine management from Keihin working with ride-by-wire and dual ignition. This means the Rally takes over exactly the key engine data of the current KTM 690 Enduro R.

Whether the single-cylinder engine, combined with the additional rally equipment and the larger tank, really becomes a relaxed touring engine on long connecting stretches remains to be shown in a test. What is clear, however, is that alongside its twin-cylinder adventure bikes, KTM is now finally offering an alternative with a massive single-cylinder engine.

The decisive argument for the new KTM 690 RALLY lies in the fuel tank. Two fuel tanks positioned at the front increase the total volume to around 20 liters, according to KTM. On the KTM 690 Enduro R, it is just 13.3 liters. This means the Rally gains 6.7 liters of tank volume on paper. KTM pairs the additional tanks with a specially developed rally tower complete with integrated windshield. According to the manufacturer, this combination is not only meant to deliver the rally look, but also to gear the KTM 690 RALLY 2027 for longer off-road stages and greater distances.

More tank, rally tower and additional fairing naturally don't come without consequences. KTM states a weight of 161.5 kilograms without fuel for the KTM 690 RALLY 2027. According to the same manufacturer figures, the current KTM 690 Enduro R sits at 152 kilograms without fuel. The Rally therefore weighs in at 9.5 kilograms more. This is probably one of the most interesting figures on the entire bike. On one hand, the 690 grows noticeably compared to its Enduro sibling. On the other hand, it remains, on paper, clearly below classic twin-cylinder adventure bikes.

The chassis also reveals the technical closeness to the 690 Enduro R. The KTM 690 RALLY 2027 uses a powder-coated chromium-molybdenum steel trellis frame. The wheelbase is 1,506 millimeters, the seat height a proud 935 millimeters, and ground clearance is 265 millimeters.

Up front, a WP XPLOR upside-down fork with 48 millimeters diameter and 265 millimeters of travel does the work. At the rear, a WP XPLOR shock with Pro-Lever linkage is used. For the shock, KTM lists adjustment options for high- and low-speed compression, rebound and spring preload. The wheel dimensions also remain classically enduro-focused: 1.85 x 21 inches up front, 2.5 x 18 inches at the rear, each as a spoked wheel. Braking is handled up front by a 300-millimeter disc with a Brembo two-piston floating caliper, and at the rear by a 240-millimeter disc with a single-piston floating caliper.

According to KTM, production of the KTM 690 RALLY 2027 is scheduled to start in September 2026 at the Austrian plant. The new model is expected to be available at authorized KTM dealers from October 2026. KTM has not yet announced a sale price.
