The BMW R 1300 GS is an adventure bike used both on the road and off-road. As the off-road share of use grows, the importance of robust protection solutions increases, aiming to specifically safeguard sensitive components and expand the range of use.

Extension for boxer engine protection

With the new valve cover protector, Touratech extends its existing protection system for the BMW R 1300 GS. The component complements the already available engine crash bar and aims to further protect the exposed cylinder areas.

The boxer engine is considered a central element of the GS series. However, due to its design, the laterally protruding cylinders are particularly vulnerable to damage in falls or off-road use. An impression of the overall package is provided by the corresponding test report of the BMW R 1300 GS.

Broad protection for sensitive components

The new valve cover protector was specifically developed to additionally safeguard the sensitive valve covers. Made from two-millimeter-thick, three-dimensionally shaped aluminum, the component covers the affected areas over a large surface area. It is mounted directly on the engine crash bar, which is intended to increase the protective effect especially in the event of lateral ground contact during off-road use.

Design for targeted force distribution

A central feature of the component is its structural design. The geometry is designed to distribute occurring forces over a large area and reduce localized load peaks. Despite high rigidity, the weight remains low, while vibration-damping rubber elements support the mounting.

With this, Touratech pursues an approach that aims to take into account both protective effect and everyday usability.

Integration into existing design concept

Visually, too, the valve cover protector is matched to the overall vehicle. The shape and lines are oriented on the design of the BMW R 1300 GS and are precisely matched to the Touratech engine crash bar. This allows the component to integrate functionally and visually into the existing protection system. Ground clearance and maximum lean angle are intended to remain unchanged.

Proven base: stainless steel engine crash bar

The basis remains the Touratech engine crash bar made of stainless steel. Made from 25 x 2 mm thick tubes and three-dimensionally shaped sheet metal, it offers an encircling protective structure with four independent mounting points. Forces are absorbed, distributed via defined load paths, and controlled through integrated predetermined bending points.

Prices and availability

The valve cover protector is available in two variants – silver and black anodized – each priced at 149.90 euros.

The engine crash bar is also offered in two versions and costs 349.90 euros. Both products are available for the BMW R 1300 GS and the Adventure version. Further information and products can be found in the Touratech Online Shop.

Focus on functional expansion in the accessories segment

With the expansion of its protection system, Touratech specifically addresses riders who use their BMW R 1300 GS off-road. The combination of engine crash bar and valve cover protector demonstrates a modular product strategy designed for expandability and specific use scenarios.

Conclusion: Touratech valve cover protector for the BMW R 1300 GS

The new valve cover protector shields the sensitive valve covers of the R 1300 GS and consists of two-millimeter-thick, three-dimensionally shaped aluminum with generous coverage. It mounts directly onto the engine crash bar, increasing protection especially in the event of lateral impacts off-road. The geometry distributes forces over a wide area and reduces stress peaks, while rubber elements at the mounting points dampen vibrations. Ground clearance and maximum lean angle remain unchanged, and the lines are matched to the BMW design and the corresponding crash bar. Priced at 149.90 euros in silver or black anodized. Useful for adventure bike riders with off-road ambitions, because the protection engages exactly where falls hit the valve covers.
