Ducati Formula 73 – A Tribute to the 750 Super Sport

Celebrating a century of innovation, Ducati unveils the Formula 73, a limited edition honoring the pioneering 750 Super Sport Desmo, the brand’s first to feature the iconic desmodromic valve control.

The Ducati Formula 73’s design is a nostalgic nod to the legendary 1973 750 Super Sport Desmo. The distinct silver and aqua green livery is a testament to the Ducati Style Centre’s meticulous archival research. A striking gold stripe on the tank recalls the raw aesthetics of the 750 Imola Desmo’s functional fuel check. With its clip-on bars, bar-end mirrors, and streamlined silhouette, the Formula 73 embodies the spirit of a classic café racer.

Numerous machined aluminum components—such as the brake and clutch levers, reservoirs, footpegs, and the standard Rizoma fuel cap—highlight the collector model's attention to detail. Like all Ducati special editions, the Formula 73 displays its model name and serial number on the top yoke. Each unit comes with a certificate of authenticity and a box containing historical photos and sketches from the Ducati Style Centre.

Technically, it's less of an experiment, as a Ducati Scrambler 800 lies beneath its beautifully vintage exterior. At the heart of the Ducati Formula 73 is an air-cooled 803cc Desmodue L-Twin featuring desmodromic valve control and two valves per cylinder. Naturally, the engine is Euro 5+ compliant. The power output is rated at 73 HP at 8,250 rpm, with a maximum torque of 65.2 Nm at 7,000 rpm, just like the Scrambler 800.

Crafted in partnership with Termignoni, the street-legal muffler is tailored with model-specific nuances to orchestrate a symphony of distinctive, throaty notes that resonate with the spirit of the Formula 73.

The steel trellis frame, painted in aqua green, strengthens the connection to the historic Super Sport Desmo. Up front, a 41mm KYB upside-down fork handles suspension duties, while a KYB shock with adjustable preload takes care of the rear. The 17-inch spoked wheels are fitted with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires in sizes 120/70 and 180/55. Braking is managed by a radially mounted Brembo 4-piston caliper on a 330mm disc at the front. The ready-to-ride weight without fuel is listed at 183 kg.

Despite its classic lines, the Ducati Formula 73 boasts an extensive electronics package with an Inertial Measurement Unit. Standard features include:

A 4.3-inch TFT color display provides the key information. Full LED lighting with DRL comes standard. Additionally, the motorcycle is prepped for the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS) and turn-by-turn navigation.

Accompanying the motorcycle, a helmet co-developed with Arai and a sport jacket reflecting the Formula 73's color scheme will be available. The Ducati Formula 73 will be available at European dealers starting in spring 2026, with deliveries to other regions expected to be completed by the end of summer.
