Monterra Raid 2026: Epic Balkan Mountain Adventure for ADV Riders

From September 5th to 12th, 2026, the Monterra Raid takes place, a multi-day motorcycle event through Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro. The tour is exclusively aimed at riders of adventure bikes weighing over 160 kilograms, requiring solid offroad experience. Unlike traditional rallies, it's not about speed or competition—the organizers clearly emphasize that this is not a race.

The event is limited to a maximum of 50 participants. The start and finish are located near Sarajevo in the Bjelašnica mountain formations. Registration opens on December 1, 2025, with the regular deadline on July 1, 2026. The early bird price for the first 25 registrations is €1,950, after which the registration fee increases to €2,250.

In six riding stages, participants tackle approximately 1,200 kilometers. The route combines mountain roads, panoramic trails, gravel paths, as well as forest and meadow tracks. Alongside the scenic stretches, organizers highlight selective offroad sections featuring rocky and muddy terrain, as well as water crossings. The route traverses the diverse landscapes of both countries.

The organizers recommend medium-hard enduro tires for gravel, with a preference for tubeless or mousse options. Standard street tires are not permitted. A minimum range of 150 kilometers is required—carrying fuel in bottles on your person is prohibited for safety reasons. All riders must be capable of fixing tire punctures on their own.

Navigation is exclusively via GPS track, sent to participants as a GPX file about seven days before the event begins. Each stage includes waypoints with coordinates for fuel stations, restaurants, and other points of interest. Participants need either a GPS device or a smartphone with an appropriate app like LocusMap Pro. The start can be done either in teams or individually.

For beginners in GPS navigation, there is an option to follow a certified tour guide for an additional fee, who will lead the group through the stages. This service is not included in the entry fee and must be booked separately. Those without their own motorcycle can book a Fly & Ride package for €3,900, which includes a rental bike, hotel accommodations, and the entry fee.

The entry fee includes seven hotel nights in a standard double room with breakfast, as well as luggage transport. The event uses two base hotels: one in Bjelašnica as the start-finish location and another in Kolašin, Montenegro, for the planned loop rides. Both accommodations feature wellness and spa areas. A single room upgrade costs €450, and registration for accompanying persons costs €650.

For safety, each participant receives a GPS tracker on the day of arrival. A trained moto-medic accompanies the riders, and a 4x4 rescue team is on standby. Organizers monitor the participants via GPS tracking and can respond quickly if needed. Briefings are conducted in German and English.
