Chigee AIO-6 Motorcycle Navigation Display Introduction & Test

In January we tested the Chigee AIO-5 Play on Gran Canaria, a device specifically designed for BMW bikes, and a bit later in March, during our winter escape in Barcelona, we were already out and about with a pre-production prototype of the new Chigee AIO-6. The new multifunction display was put through its paces for two weeks in changeable conditions.

The Chigee AIO-6 comes with a 6-inch, anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels, which remains very easy to read even in direct sunlight. Maximum brightness is an impressive 2300 nits. The robust magnesium-aluminum housing is IP69K-certified and shrugs off even the heaviest rain, something we unfortunately got to verify multiple times during our stay in Spain. The unit also packs an integrated GPS and various sensors (light, acceleration, microphone) needed for its wide range of functions.

Power is supplied via the 12–18 V DC connection, and the device can be operated both via the touchscreen and via four large, glove-friendly physical buttons. There's a whole range of mounting options for the AIO-6, whether via handlebar mount, ball joint, quick-release, or crossbar mounting. Particularly interesting for BMW riders: with an optional adapter, integration into the original BMW navigation prep with Wonder Wheel is also possible. However, these mounting options have to be ordered separately.

Arguably the most important function of the AIO-6 remains the simple, stable, and wireless integration of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In practice, that means navigation, music, messages, and calls can be controlled just as conveniently as in a car. Connecting to the smartphone works quickly and reliably – both on first pairing and when reconnecting later.

Thanks to the new CG OS 2 operating system, the system runs even more smoothly. Switching between apps and menus happens without delay. A dual-core A53 processor combined with 4 GB of RAM ensures consistent performance. The system now also offers split-screen views and a clearly structured user interface optimized for bikes.

As already mentioned, the AIO-6 works out of the box with a wide variety of universal mounts for bikes of all brands, as well as with the original BMW navigation mount, which also allows the device to be controlled via the BMW handlebar switches. In doing so, it also gains access to plenty of vehicle data. Even riders not on a BMW can, regardless of brand, display a wide range of live vehicle data on the AIO-6 via an optional OBD interface or CGRC-LIN module:

• Oil temperature
• Tire pressure and temperature
• Trip data
• Lean angle
• RPM
• Speed

Depending on the setup, these parameters are pulled directly from the bike and displayed on the screen in various – sometimes customizable – layouts.

When it comes to feel and real-world operation, the AIO-6 doesn't slip up either. The device clicks securely into the quick-release mount with a clean "click", but can also be removed with a single motion when the ride is over. Operation via the optional BMW Wonder Wheel works just as reliably as control via the touchscreen and the four large hardware buttons – even with thick gloves. The high brightness also ensures good readability in direct sunlight. Depending on which app is displayed via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, though, font size varies and can sometimes be quite small. No problem for riders with sharp eyesight, but potentially challenging for those with less keen vision. Chigee's own menus and displays don't have this problem, but depending on the layout, they can feel a bit cluttered with information. After spending some time with the AIO-6, though, your eye automatically and instantly finds the spot with the data you're looking for.

One of the AIO-6's great strengths is its enormous expandability. Chigee has built a modular ecosystem that lets the device grow far beyond mere smartphone mirroring. Numerous optional components and functions are available, turning the AIO-6 into the bike's central control and information hub:

• BMW quick mount - For integration with nav prep and Wonder Wheel
• Dashcam extension with HDR - Record rides, security monitoring
• BSD system (Blind Spot Detection) - Blind spot warning system with precise sensors

The great advantage of this multitude of options and features is that, as a bike owner, you're no longer dependent on the manufacturer to implement certain technologies on your model. Anyone who, for example, wants a blind spot warning system on their bike - a feature that until now has been reserved for top-tier touring bikes - can now retrofit it relatively easily with the Chigee AIO-6.

The AIO-6 consistently proved itself in testing. The wireless connection with the smartphone worked flawlessly, navigation via Google Maps or other apps ran just as smoothly as music streaming. The device also worked reliably and stably through changing weather conditions and vibrations.

The biggest step forward remains the even simpler integration of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay – finally turning the bike into a true multimedia platform, just like we're used to in cars. The fact that the AIO-6 can be used across platforms makes it all the more appealing for riders of different brands.

One minor criticism remains: the included instructions on our pre-production unit were very sparse. Whether this will also be the case with the production model can't be conclusively judged at this time.

The Chigee AIO-6 is available in two variants: AIO-6 Max Smart Riding Display for €417.95 & AIO-6 LTE 4G Smart Riding Display for €508.95 RRP. That means the entry price is actually below that of its predecessor - despite noticeably improved technology. Depending on the accessories chosen, though, the total price can and will increase.

The Chigee AIO-6 is a well-thought-out, high-quality, and universally usable navigation system that works excellently both with and without BMW integration. The strong hardware, the brilliant display, the new operating system, and the multitude of optional features make it a genuine recommendation for riders of all brands who want to expand their bike's technical capabilities.

Anyone wanting to get the maximum out of navigation, smartphone connectivity, riding data, and multimedia on the bike will find a mature control center in the AIO-6.
