KTM 690 Enduro R and KTM 690 SMC R 2026
KTM Revamps the 690 Series
The KTM 690 ENDURO R and 690 SMC R are rolling into 2026 with a revamped LC4 engine, cutting-edge electronics, and extended maintenance intervals. Discover the real technical upgrades right here.
KTM is sending its most renowned LC4 models into the new season with a comprehensive update. The 2026 KTM 690 ENDURO R and KTM 690 SMC R are set to offer better rideability, increased comfort, and above all, greater control through numerous technical innovations.
Revamped LC4 Engine for 2026
The core of both models remains the well-known 690 single-cylinder, which KTM claims has been roughly half overhauled for the 2026 model year. New features include the crankcase, oil circuit, valve timing, clutch and alternator covers, as well as a new catalytic converter in the compact silencer.
The changes are designed to deliver more power, a beefier torque curve, and simultaneously meet Euro 5+ compliance. KTM specifies performance figures of 79 metric horsepower (PS) and 73 Nm of torque. The reduced mechanical resistance in the oil system is also expected to contribute to more direct power delivery. Additionally, a more robust fuel pump design with higher injection pressure has been introduced for more precise throttle response.
Electronics Package with Optional Plus
In 2026, both models will come standard with a new 4.2-inch TFT display featuring KTM Connect integration, a USB-C port, music control, call acceptance, and turn-by-turn navigation. The controls are operated via newly designed, illuminated switches with optimized ergonomics.
The KTM 690 SMC R comes standard with two riding modes: STREET and SPORT. Optionally, the TRACK mode can be unlocked, which includes a 5-level anti-wheelie mode, launch control, and slip regulation.
The KTM 690 ENDURO R features STREET and OFFROAD modes. Optionally, the RALLY mode is available. A standout feature here is the new Dynamic Slip Adjust, which automatically adjusts the MTC slip to the riding situationbut only upwards.
Both models come standard with cornering ABS and cornering MTC, which can also be fully deactivated. The ENDURO R additionally offers its own ABS-off switch.
Refined Chassis with Fine-Tuning
The chassis retains the basic structure of the previous generation, but according to KTM, has been revised based on feedback and tuning. The new setup aims to create a better balance between comfort and performance. While the lateral stiffness of the frame remains unchanged, the overall stiffness has been improved. This is intended to provide more direct feedback through the footpegs and handlebars. Additionally, the ENDURO R receives new mounting points for a center stand and an adjusted engine guard plate.
KTM 690 Models: Maintenance Intervals and Pricing
For the update of both models, KTM focused on specific details without fundamentally altering the concept. This includes an optimized throttle grip with a reduced twist angle (65°), which KTM claims enhances throttle response precision while reducing rider fatigue.
The new airbox design replaces the previous SLS system, reducing parts complexity. Additionally, the service intervals are significantly extended: oil changes are now required only every 15,000 km, and valve clearance checks every 60,000 kmfigures that are particularly relevant for high-mileage riders.
The new model year is set to roll off the production line in Mattighofen starting August 2025. The first models should be available at European dealers just in time for the autumn season. In Austria, the 690 SMC R and 690 Enduro R models start at €13,599, while in Germany, the list price for both models is €12,499.
