Overview - Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2022 vs Kawasaki Versys 650 2022
The Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2022 and the Kawasaki Versys 650 2022 are both popular enduro motorcycles that offer a combination of on-road and off-road capabilities. While they have some similarities in terms of engine type, transmission, and suspension, there are also notable differences in their technical specifications and features.
In terms of engine power, the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin takes the lead with 102 HP compared to the Kawasaki Versys 650's 67 HP. This makes the Africa Twin a more powerful option for riders who prioritize performance. The Africa Twin also has a higher torque of 105 Nm, providing better acceleration and low-end power.
Both motorcycles feature an in-line engine configuration with two cylinders, but the Africa Twin has a larger displacement of 1084 ccm compared to the Versys 650's 649 ccm. This larger displacement contributes to the Africa Twin's higher power output.

In terms of suspension, the Africa Twin offers a more advanced setup with an upside-down telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The front suspension has a larger diameter of 45 mm and offers a longer travel of 230 mm compared to the Versys 650's 41 mm diameter and 150 mm travel. Both motorcycles have a steel frame, but the Africa Twin has a slightly lower rake of 62.5 degrees compared to the Versys 650's 65-degree rake. On the other hand, the Versys 650 excels in agile handling, adjustable chassis, accessible engine, electronics update for 2022, comfortable seating position, and low consumption with a high range.
In terms of weaknesses, the Africa Twin's operating concept of the electronics is not very clear and intuitive, and its handguards may not be robust enough for off-road use. The windshield also offers only manageable protection, and the ergonomics may not be ideal for standing riding. The Versys 650, on the other hand, struggles with its engine power in relation to its weight, and its windshield can only be adjusted with two hands. It also lacks cruise control.

Pros and Cons in comparison
Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2022

For me, the Africa Twin is a touring enduro as a touring enduro should be. This was already true of the predecessor model and did not change with the increase in displacement and power. Because the latter remained manageable at 102 hp, and Honda even managed to shed a few kilos compared to the CRF1000L. So it remained versatile, functioning just as well on the motorway as off-road. The chassis absorbs almost all bumps, the engine remains sovereign in every situation, ergonomics and seating comfort are exemplary. A motorbike for all days as well as for the big trip - wherever that may be.
Kawasaki Versys 650 2022

Relaxed touring with plenty of comfort and enough potential for cornering fun - the Versys 650 is and remains a good choice among mid-range sport tourers. Although you will reach the top of the pass faster on the competition, you will enjoy getting back on the Kawa every time, which welcomes the rider with a high level of comfort and extensive equipment. If you enjoy touring and can get by with a little less power, the Versys 650 is a good choice!
