Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin DCT/ES 2026

Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin DCT/ES 2026

The Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin DCT ES 2026 is the comfort specialist amongst the large touring enduros. Its upright riding position, relaxed knee angle, high front end and semi-active Showa suspension make long journeys a particularly relaxed affair. The powerful in-line twin-cylinder engine, with its rumbling character, is a perfect match for the DCT, which shifts early or more sportily depending on the mode. The electronic suspension broadens the bike’s range of use from comfortable touring to stable gravel riding. Less convincing are the sluggish display, the fiddly controls and the disc, which can only be adjusted properly when the bike is stationary. When standing, the footrests are positioned far forward, which means the ergonomics are less well suited to ambitious off-road riding and an active front-wheel orientation. Yet, those looking primarily to travel long distances in comfort and with confidence will still find an exceptionally well-balanced overall package.

Unrivalled long-distance comfort

a powerful engine right from low revs

a distinctive sound

a comfortable and versatile DCT

a highly adaptable semi-active suspension

a low and narrow riding position by comparison

stable and easy-going on tarmac and gravel

Sluggish and, in places, laggy TFT display

unintuitive controls

adjustable windscreen cannot be adjusted effectively whilst riding

rather passive riding position

poor standing ergonomics for challenging off-road riding

the DCT-ES variant is heavy

KTM 1390 Super Adventure R 2026

KTM 1390 Super Adventure R 2026

The KTM 1390 Super Adventure R is a brute, yet cultivated big enduro bike. It dispenses with the electronic comfort features that are otherwise common in the upper class, such as radar systems or semi-active suspensions, instead focussing entirely on sport and off-road use. The engine and suspension deliver huge reserves, the riding experience ranges from extreme to relaxed and even a few small weaknesses cannot spoil the exaggerated, yet fun and well-rounded overall impression.

Brute and easily controllable engine

high-quality WP-XPLOR suspension

strong driving dynamics on tarmac

high off-road reserves

good electronic setup

good steering angle

extensive on-board tool kit

Limited footroom

handlebars too low for tall riders when standing

clutch rather harsh in city traffic

windscreen adjustment simply solved

test bike with technical failure

chain load noticeable during hard off-road use
