In diesem Moment wird klar, worum es bei einem Bremsscheibenschloss geht – nicht darum, professionelle Diebe endgültig abzuwehren, sondern darum, Zeit zu gewinnen und den eigenen Besitz weniger attraktiv zu machen. Denn wenn ein potenzieller Dieb die Wahl zwischen sechs frei zugänglichen Motorrädern und einem Bike mit sichtbarer Sicherung hat, wird seine Aufmerksamkeit wohl eher den einfacheren Zielen gelten.

Genau dafür hat Vector die JawX-Serie entwickelt – in unserem Test die mechanische Version Vector JawX 10 und die Vector JawX A10 mit Alarm.

A disc lock is inserted through an opening in the brake disc of a parked motorcycle, blocking its rotation. This prevents the bike from being easily pushed or rolled away. The key advantages of this security type include its compact design, light weight, and quick application. A disc lock can fit in a jacket pocket and be mounted in seconds.

High-quality models feature hardened locking bolts and protective mechanisms against drilling, picking, or prying. While theft is not entirely impossible, the required effort and time increase significantly. Some models, like the Vector JawX A10, enhance mechanical protection with an electronic alarm. This alarm responds to vibrations and emits a sound up to 120 dB, designed to deter potential thieves and draw attention from the surroundings.

However, security experts warn of the limitations: Cheap locks can be broken with simple tools or bypassed by removing the brake disc. Therefore, it is advisable to choose a high-quality lock and, if the bike is left unattended for extended periods, to secure it with a chain and a solid anchor. For extra safety, many manufacturers recommend using a brightly colored reminder cable that hangs on the handlebar to remind you to remove the lock before riding off. Vector includes such a cable as standard.

The JawX series will be launched across Europe in summer 2026 and includes five models. In our practice, we focus on the two 10-mm variants: JawX 10 (mechanical) and JawX A10 (alarm). According to the manufacturer, all models are made from 304 stainless steel, resistant to water and weather conditions, and protected against rust, impacts, drilling, picking, and cutting.

Each package includes three keys and a coiled reminder cable. A 10 mm double-locking pin secures the shackle at both ends—a design considered especially resistant to sawing and prying attacks.

The JawX 10 is the minimalist model: a 10-mm pin, no electronics, offering 100% mechanical protection for 59 Euros. It weighs 564 g and impresses with its clear design language. The brushed stainless steel surface looks classy, and the deeply engraved Vector logo along with the removable "shark mouth" gives the lock character. The three included keys are marked with "Vector" on the head, making them easy to identify even after years.

Vector JawX A10
For 79 Euros, the JawX A10 offers the same mechanical foundation but with an added alarm function. Behind a screwed stainless steel cover sit six LR44 batteries that trigger a 120-dB alarm. The lock weighs 647 g. The electronics are activated by a small film in the battery compartment and are immediately armed once the pin is locked. The alarm siren is louder than some motorcycle exhausts—a piercing siren likely to cause annoyance in residential areas. All other technical features match those of the JawX 10: stainless steel housing, double locking, drill and picking protection, as well as the included reminder cable.

Both locks come in a sleek cardboard package. Inside, you'll find the lock, three keys, the coiled reminder cable, and with the A10, an extra-long hex key for opening the battery compartment.

Right out of the box, the stainless steel casing makes a premium impression: no powder coating that might chip off after a fall, but bare steel that ages gracefully with scratches. The "shark mouth" sticker looks a bit clunky in photos but serves its purpose as an eye-catcher and can be removed without leaving a trace. The engraving of the Vector logo impresses with its depth and precision.

The purely mechanical JawX 10 is ready to go right out of the box: insert the key, slide the 10-mm pin through the brake disc, press it down, and you're set. The locking mechanism feels precise; even in the dark, the key finds its way effortlessly, with no sticking or jamming. A clear click confirms that the pin is locked. Attach the neon reminder cable to the handlebar, and you can enjoy your espresso with peace of mind. The double locking feature is practical: it secures the pin at both ends, making it significantly harder to saw through. In everyday use, we found the weight pleasant: at around half a kilo, the lock fits comfortably in any jacket pocket without being a nuisance.

The JawX A10 alarm version requires a small setup for first-time use. Using the included hex key, open the cover, remove the transport safety feature, or insert the batteries. The system is then ready for action.

Operation:

1. The JawX A10 is placed over the brake disc and locked with the key. Upon locking, a short beep sounds – BEEP. The system is now armed. Any vibration triggers an initial triple warning beep, followed by a piercing 120 dB siren if movement continues.
2. When unlocking, the lock remains silent. Only when it is locked again away from the brake disc to remove the key, a double beep sounds – BEEP BEEP. This signal confirms that the alarm is deactivated. The lock can now be stored quietly, conserving battery and avoiding false alarms.
3. This sequence repeats with each use: Secure the motorcycle – BEEP – Alarm active. Remove the lock and secure for storage – BEEP BEEP – Alarm deactivated.

Note: The concept is as simple as it is clever. However, caution is advised: accidentally activating the alarm in a packed backpack can turn every movement into an unintended test of nerves.

The feel, locking mechanism, and build quality are consistent with the JawX 10. Only the integrated electronics make the JawX A10 slightly bulkier and noticeably heavier.

A high-quality disc lock might not always prevent theft, but it significantly raises the barrier. Its purpose is to buy time, increase the effort for potential thieves, and make your motorcycle a less attractive target compared to unsecured machines.

Which of the two JawX models is the better choice largely depends on your personal usage profile. The JawX 10 stands out as a straightforward companion for everyday use. It’s lighter, more compact, more affordable, and always ready to go. For those securing their motorcycle in front of a café, the office, or during a quick shopping stop, it provides exactly what a good disc lock should: maximum simplicity with high everyday usability.

On the other hand, the JawX A10 is aimed at riders who regularly park their motorcycles in places where they can actually hear an alarm. In the home garage, in front of the bedroom window, in the hotel garage, or next to the tent while bikepacking, the 120-dB siren can offer real added value. The acoustic shock effect is immense and is likely to stop many theft attempts right from the start.
