Especially in off-road use, robust protection solutions rank among the most important upgrades, since crashes or tip-overs are hardly avoidable in the terrain. With the new system, Touratech aims to address exactly this and functionally expand the adventure bike.

Protection solution for off-road and everyday use
With the new Touratech engine crash bar for the BMW R 12 G/S, the adventure bike is to be specifically prepared for demanding use. According to the manufacturer, the machine is clearly designed for off-road adventures but requires appropriate protective equipment for this. The crash bar was developed to effectively protect cylinder heads and valve covers from damage – both off-road and on the road.

Stainless steel construction focused on stability
The base is a construction made from 25 x 2 millimeter stainless steel tubes that surround the boxer engine three-dimensionally. Through the combination of material, geometry, and dual mounting on the frame, Touratech says a particularly high level of protection is achieved. At the same time, the construction closely follows the engine shape, which is intended to enable a slim look and reduced leverage forces in the event of a crash.
The surface is powder-coated and available in either black or red.

Tech-Plates bring additional function
A key feature is the optionally available Tech-Plates, which functionally expand the crash bar. The lower plate made of stainless steel features eyelets for attaching tie-down straps, allowing the bike to be secured for transport. The upper aluminum plate offers cutouts for mounting luggage or additional equipment. In addition, the Tech-Plates are said to increase overall rigidity, which in turn improves the protective effect.

Conclusion: Touratech engine crash bar for the BMW R 12 G/S
The crash bar surrounds the boxer cylinders three-dimensionally from all sides and protects cylinder heads and valve covers, both off-road and on the road. It is made from 25 by 2 millimeter stainless steel tubing that closely follows the engine contour, resulting in a slim build rather than bulky protrusion. The optional Tech-Plates increase rigidity and deliver real added value: the lower stainless steel plate carries eyelets for tying down during transport, the upper aluminum plate accommodates luggage or add-on parts. At 329.90 Euro without and 499.90 Euro with Tech-Plates, the package falls within the expected premium range. The design promises exactly the low leverage in a crash that matters for boxer engines. For R 12 G/S riders with genuine off-road ambitions, it's the obvious choice, as the Tech-Plates bundle protection and luggage solution into one component.
