KTM 990 RC R TRACK Set to Launch in 2026 Without Road Legal Approval

KTM is unleashing an uncompromising track-only version of its 990 RC R. The KTM 990 RC R TRACK ditches any form of road approval, focusing solely on circuit performance. Headlights, mirrors, and side stands are a thing of the past. The injection-molded fairing allows for custom race numbers, while the elevated windscreen supports an aggressive racing posture. Standard features include a rain light and paddock stand. Controls and the display have been stripped down to the essentials, saving two kilograms according to the manufacturer.

At the heart remains the 947cc Parallel-Twin DOHC LC8c engine, delivering 135 HP at 99.3 kW and 105 Nm at 7,000 RPM. The standard Akrapovič Evolution Line exhaust, crafted from stainless steel, tips the scales at just three kilograms and caps sound at 98.2 decibels. The race gearbox features a longer first and shorter sixth gear. Its aerodynamics draw from the KTM RC16 in MotoGP, with wings and edges designed for maximum downforce when cornering and stability during acceleration. The 15.7-liter tank and 857mm high seat establish six contact points to aid movement around the motorcycle.

The fully adjustable WP APEX suspension has been fine-tuned for European racetracks. Michelin Power Slick tires sized 120/70-R17 at the front and 190/55-R17 at the rear come standard. Up front, a 320mm Brembo HyPure disc with the latest 4-piston technology bites down, while a 240mm disc handles the rear. The system is ABS-free and performance-optimized compared to its road-legal sibling. Three customizable track modes allow adjustments for throttle response, Motorcycle Traction Control, slip adjustment, anti-wheelie, launch control, and engine braking. A 4.2-inch TFT color display provides all essential lap information, complemented by a pit limiter and quickshifter.

Alongside the KTM 990 RC R TRACK, the manufacturer announced the KTM 990 RC R CUP – a six-part racing series in Europe for ambitious amateur riders. Participants in this series will receive their motorcycles from February 2026, while regular delivery to customers and authorized dealers will begin in April 2026. The TRACK version positions itself as a factory-prepared track tool, designed for low maintenance and detailed dealer support.
