KTM 990 RC R TRACK Set to Launch in 2026 Without Road Approval

KTM is launching an uncompromising track version of its 990 RC R. The KTM 990 RC R TRACK ditches road legality, focusing entirely on circuit use. Headlights, mirrors, and kickstand are relics of the past. The injection-molded fairing offers space for custom race numbers, while the taller windscreen supports an aggressive racing position. The bike comes standard with a rain light and paddock stand. Controls and display have been stripped down to the essentials, saving two kilograms according to the manufacturer.

At the heart is the 947cc Parallel-Twin DOHC LC8c engine, delivering 135 HP at 99.3 kW and 105 Nm at 7,000 RPM. The standard Akrapovič Evolution Line exhaust system, made from stainless steel, tips the scales at just three kilograms and keeps the sound to 98.2 decibels. The race gearbox features a longer first gear and a shorter sixth gear. The aerodynamics are inspired by the KTM RC16 from MotoGP, with wings and edges designed for maximum downforce when cornering and stability during acceleration. The 15.7-liter tank and 857 mm high seat define six contact points that enhance rider mobility around the bike.

The fully adjustable WP APEX suspension is tuned for European racetracks. Michelin Power Slick tires in sizes 120/70-R17 front and 190/55-R17 rear come as standard. Up front, a 320 mm Brembo HyPure disc with the latest 4-piston technology, and a 240 mm disc at the rear handle braking duties. The system foregoes ABS and is performance-optimized compared to its road-legal sibling. Three individually adjustable Track Modes allow fine-tuning of throttle response, Motorcycle Traction Control, slip adjustment, anti-wheelie, launch control, and engine braking. A 4.2-inch TFT color display provides all relevant lap information, complemented by a pit limiter and quickshifter.

Alongside the KTM 990 RC R TRACK, the manufacturer announced the KTM 990 RC R CUP – a six-part racing series in Europe for ambitious amateur riders. Participants in this series will receive their motorcycles as early as February 2026, with regular deliveries to customers and authorized dealers starting in April 2026. The TRACK version positions itself as a factory-prepared track tool, offering low maintenance and detailed dealer support. It's a motorcycle that deliberately draws the line between road and track.
