Ducati Desmo450 MX Factory – A New Generation in Motocross

A year after the debut of the Desmo450 MX, Ducati unveils the Desmo450 MX Factory, an advanced version designed for ambitious racers. It's set to weigh in at 104 kilograms (0.8 kg lighter than the base model) and comes factory-equipped with components straight from the racing world.

At the heart of the machine is a single-cylinder engine with Desmodromic valve timing, a hallmark of Ducati's racing department. According to Ducati, this power unit delivers 63.5 hp at 9,400 rpm and 53.5 Nm at 7,500 rpm, with the rev limiter set at 11,900 rpm. The Akrapovič titanium exhaust system and custom mapping enhance mid-range torque between 4,000 and 7,500 rpm. The Desmodromic system enables precise valve control at high engine speeds. Ducati emphasizes that this allows the engine to accelerate faster out of corners and maintain consistent drive—delivering 70% of its maximum torque as early as 4,200 rpm.

The chassis is built around an aluminum perimeter frame weighing 8.95 kg. Showa developed a special 49 mm upside-down fork with Dark Kashima coating and TiO superfinishing specifically for the Factory model. This setup is intended to enhance responsiveness and increase durability in tough off-road conditions.

The shock offers 301 mm of travel, while the fork provides 310 mm. Both components are fully adjustable. Machined Ergal triple clamps shave off around 200 grams of weight. Ducati trusts the Brembo braking system with Galfer discs (260 mm front, 240 mm rear) for precise modulation. The standard package also includes Pirelli Scorpion MX32 tires, an RK MXU O-ring chain, Takasago Excel rims with Alpina spokes, and a holeshot device for stable starts.

Ducati incorporates electronics typically seen only in MotoGP and Superbikes. Onboard features include Ducati Traction Control (DTC) with four levels, Launch Control, Engine Brake Control, and a Quickshifter. Through the X-Link app, two riding modes can be individually configured—allowing throttle response, traction control, and engine braking to be tailored to both the track and the rider. The system is designed to detect when the rear wheel lifts over obstacles and automatically deactivate the DTC system.

Ducati states that the maintenance intervals are designed with practicality in mind: piston changes and valve clearance checks every 45 operating hours, and a full engine overhaul every 90 hours. For racing enthusiasts, Ducati Performance offers a wide range of accessories to replicate the look and performance of MXGP factory machines—such as machined hubs, reinforced rims, a racing seat, and Brembo racing components. A dedicated apparel line by Drudi Performance featuring Alpinestars and Arai gear completes the package.

Visually, the Ducati Desmo450 MX Factory sports the Ducati Corse 2025 livery—inspired by MXGP factory machines. The frame and axle holders are black anodized, further emphasizing the factory look. This model is already available at European Ducati dealers.
