Triumph Tracker 400: Flat Track Meets Café Racer Style

Two New 400cc Triumphs Deliver Retro Design and Riding Fun

Triumph expands its 400cc lineup with the new Tracker 400 and Thruxton 400. While the Tracker boasts flat track design and upright ergonomics, the Thruxton nods to classic café racer shapes. However, only one of these models will be available in our market.

Triumph Tracker 400 – Flat Track Style in the 400cc Class

With the Tracker 400, Triumph introduces a flat track-inspired motorcycle to the entry-level class for the first time. This model aims to blend the British brand's DNA with a sporty-aggressive riding position and distinctive lines.

The revamped 398cc single-cylinder engine from the TR series delivers 42 HP at 9,000 rpm, according to the manufacturer, marking a five percent increase over previous 400cc models. With 37.5 Nm of torque and a linear power curve, the engine promises smooth power delivery across the entire rev range. Custom suspension tuning with a 43mm upside-down fork, gas-charged shock absorber, and an 805mm seat height aims to make the Tracker particularly agile. The handlebars are wider and lower, and the footpegs are positioned further back, a geometry that dynamically reflects the flat track style.

Design with Classic Racing Genes

The Tracker 400 incorporates typical flat track elements: an angular silhouette, number plates, a flyscreen, and a boxy tank with pronounced knee cutouts. Three color options are available:

  • Racing Yellow with black contrasts
  • Phantom Black with dark metallic elements
  • Aluminum Silver Gloss with red accents

The machine rides on Pirelli MT60 RS tires, reminiscent of dirt track competitions but offering road-oriented grip. In the cockpit, a classic round instrument meets a digital tachometer, flanked by modern features such as ABS, traction control, and a torque-assist clutch.

New Single-Cylinder in the Triumph Tracker 400

The revamped TR-Series engine has been enhanced with new camshaft geometry and adjusted mapping. The result: five percent more peak power (42 HP) and increased rev-happiness. The ride-by-wire system ensures precise throttle response, the 6-speed gearbox allows for swift gear changes, and the linear torque curve is likely to shine, especially on winding country roads.

According to Triumph, the sister models Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 will continue to use the old engine with 40 HP. The manufacturer aims to create further differentiation within the model family.

Triumph Tracker 400 2026: Pricing and Launch Date

The Triumph Tracker 400 will be available in Germany starting at €6,495 (including VAT, plus additional costs) and in Austria from €7,145 (including VAT and NOVA). Both markets will receive the model from May 2026.

As is customary with Triumph, the brand places great emphasis on clean design and high-quality craftsmanship. A two-year unlimited mileage warranty also covers original accessories. Triumph offers a wide range of accessories for both models, from LED indicators and protectors to custom seats.

Triumph Thruxton 400 - Café Racer for the Youth

Alongside the Tracker, Triumph is introducing the Thruxton 400, which will not be offered in Austria and Germany. According to Triumph Motorrad Deutschland, the necessary market potential is not seen here.

Visually appealing, but not available in the German-speaking market.

Instead of a wide flat-track handlebar, the Thruxton 400 features clip-ons and rear-set footpegs, resulting in a sporty, stretched riding posture. Visually, the Thruxton 400 echoes the 1960s café racers with its round headlight, cockpit fairing, and seat cowl, but combines these with contemporary LED technology, modern chassis geometry, and a distinctive color palette: Carnival Red, Pearl White/Storm Grey, Metallic Racing Yellow, or Phantom Black/Aluminum.

Visually, the Thruxton 400 also strongly resembles the now-discontinued Speed Triple 1200 RR, which took the classic approach to the other end of the performance spectrum.

Classic half-fairing.

Conclusion: Triumph Tracker 400 & Thruxton 400

The Tracker 400 brings flat track character to the 400cc lineup, offering an urban naked bike with a sporty ambition. The Thruxton 400 reinterprets retro performance in café racer style, even though it won't be available in the German-speaking market.

It's important to note that these new models are not just the well-known Speed 400 in a new guise. Triumph has enhanced the technology, increased the power, and created distinct models with revised geometry. Prospective buyers should not only decide based on looks but should test ride all versions of the Triumph A2 engine before making their decision.
