At EICMA 2025, MV Agusta unveiled an entirely new engine concept with its 5-Cylinder Engine Concept. According to the manufacturer, development is already underway at the R&D center in Schiranna, Italy. Here are the initial data and specifications.

Technical Concept of the MV Agusta 5-Cylinder Engine

The engine is designed as a "quadrato" platform, covering a displacement range from 850 to 1150 cc. This modularity is intended to make it suitable for various segments—from supersports and naked bikes to tourers. According to MV Agusta, peak power could exceed 240 HP at over 16,000 rpm. Maximum torque is stated to be up to 135 Nm at 8,500 rpm. Despite its high power density, the engine is expected to weigh under 60 kilograms.

MV Agusta Five-Cylinder: Design and Technology

The 5-cylinder engine is characterized by an unusual architecture: a three-cylinder front crankshaft and a two-cylinder rear crankshaft form a "U" configuration, which, according to MV Agusta, reduces vibrations and improves smoothness. The manufacturer emphasizes that the unique firing order of the 5-cylinder ensures balanced torque behavior—without the need for variable valve timing. Thus, the engine is designed to deliver strong low-end power and high revving capability.

To enhance efficiency, an electric water pump and an electric oil pump are utilized. These are intended to improve responsiveness and reduce energy consumption. The compact design results in an engine that is narrower than an inline four and shorter than a V4. This could set a new benchmark for packaging at MV Agusta.

Outlook - When Will the MV Agusta V5 Engine Arrive?

With the 5-cylinder platform, MV Agusta aims to push the boundaries of conventional engine construction. The engine is intended to serve as the foundation for a new generation of models. According to MV Agusta, the first application is planned for a model that is not currently in the lineup, with its introduction announced for the coming years.
