New Era for the KTM Group

The board of PIERER Mobility AG has scheduled an extraordinary general meeting for November 19, 2025. A key agenda item is the proposed rebranding of the company to Bajaj Mobility AG, contingent upon the EU Commission not prohibiting Bajaj's takeover.

The planned name change aims to signal the transition to a new corporate structure. At the same time, the supervisory board members previously appointed by Pierer will resign. New representatives, likely appointed by Bajaj, are expected to take over the board. This move appears logical, given that Pierer's withdrawal was seen as a prerequisite for the Indian investment.

From Wels, Austria to Pune, India: How It Happened

The Indian motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Auto Ltd. has been a key partner and investor in the KTM Group for years. Bajaj initially acquired around 14% of KTM in 2007 and gradually increased its stake to nearly 49%. This collaboration provided KTM with access to production capabilities in India and offered Bajaj entry into the European premium segment.

2025 marks the strategic transition in this partnership: Bajaj is set to take control of PIERER Mobility AG. A corresponding call option was agreed upon between Pierer Industrie AG and Bajaj Auto Ltd. in the spring.

The rebranding to Bajaj Mobility AG is more than a mere formality—it signifies a clear shift in the power dynamics within the group, although KTM CEO Neumeister has been keen to emphasize in interviews that KTM will continue to operate independently in Austria.

Impact on Brands and Locations of the Former Pierer Mobility

PIERER Mobility encompasses motorcycle brands such as KTM, Husqvarna, and GASGAS, as well as E-Mobility divisions like FELT and R Raymon. The company intends to divest from the bicycle brands to focus on core operations. Given the high cost pressures, it is anticipated that manufacturing will increasingly shift towards India and China. Bajaj, for instance, could leverage synergies with its existing production facilities in Pune and Chakan to achieve economies of scale.

Despite this shift, the core brands—especially KTM—are expected to maintain their European development focus. A KTM spokesperson recently emphasized that the move is viewed as an "evolution of the global growth strategy," rather than a departure from its European heritage.

What's Next

On November 19, 2025, the general meeting is set to make the formal resolutions. Following this, the legal implementation of the control change will proceed, provided there are no legal objections from Brussels. The rebranding to Bajaj Mobility AG marks a new chapter in the company's history—transforming the former Austrian success story into a global corporation, with its future center likely based in India.
