BMW F 450 GS 2026 Engine & Powertrain
At the core of the BMW F 450 GS is a newly minted, punchy parallel-twin engine with a 420 cc displacement (bore 72 mm, stroke 51.6 mm). Delivering 35 kW (48 hp) at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm, its 135-degree crankshaft offset provides a distinctive sound and silky smoothness. A balancer shaft ahead of the crankshaft dampens vibrations, while the wet sump lubrication guarantees consistent oil flow even in challenging conditions. The optional skid plate shields the oil pan off-road. Fuel mixture is managed by an intake manifold injection system paired with BMS-Z engine management, delivering precise power through the ride-by-wire system. Torque flows through a six-speed gearbox and left-positioned chain drive. The stainless steel exhaust, cleverly fitted on the right, aids maneuverability.

The small parallel-twin of the F 450 GS showcases a unique crankpin offset of 135°.
Automatic Clutch for the BMW F 450 GS - Easy Ride Clutch
A standout technical feature is the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). Offered as standard on the Trophy variant—the premier F450 GS model—and optional on others, the ERC is a groundbreaking advancement of the centrifugal clutch, debuting with the F 450 GS. It automates clutch engagement at low RPMs, with a centrifugal unit managing engine-rear wheel disconnection and reconnection based on RPM, akin to scooter technology. The brilliance: the clutch lever remains, fully operational, while the centrifugal clutch disengages during coasting to allow engine braking until idle, then re-engages. Paired with the Shift Assistant Pro, the need for manual clutch use is virtually eliminated. ERC is designed to boost comfort, reduce stalling risks, and ensure a consistent and predictable ride.
BMW F 450 GS - Chassis and Brakes
The chassis is based on a newly designed tubular steel frame that integrates the engine as a load-bearing element. It aims to combine low weight with high stiffness and durability. The geometry is engineered for agility: wheelbase of 1,465 mm, steering head angle of 28.1°, and a trail of 115 mm. According to BMW, this design ensures the F 450 GS delivers agile and precise handling both on tarmac and off-road.

With the right accessory options, the F 450 GS is set to perform well even on loose terrain.
Up front, a KYB upside-down fork with a 43 mm stanchion diameter and 180 mm of travel is employed, while at the rear, an aluminum hollow-cast dual swingarm with a KYB central shock absorber and travel-dependent damping (WAD) is used—a system originating from off-road sports that BMW has further developed for the GS. The suspension offers adjustable preload and rebound damping. In the Sport and GS Trophy variants, the sport suspension with adjustable rebound and compression damping is standard.
Braking is handled by a Brembo four-piston setup with a 310 mm disc at the front and a 240 mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear. Standard features include BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), engine drag torque control (MSR), and dynamic brake light.
BMW F 450 GS 2026 Wheels & Tires
The BMW F 450 GS comes standard with lightweight cast aluminum wheels sized 100/90-19 at the front and 130/80-17 at the rear, fitted with tubeless tires. For off-road use, cross-spoke wheels are available as accessories, allowing for the fitting of knobby tires.
Electronics of the BMW F 450 GS 2026
The F 450 GS comes standard with three riding modes—"Rain," "Road," and "Enduro." Starting with the Exclusive variant, the "Enduro Pro" mode is added, specifically designed for knobby tires. In this mode, wheelie control and rear ABS are deactivated, while throttle response and traction control can be individually adjusted. The standard ABS Pro, DTC, DBC, and MSR systems use different control strategies depending on the selected riding mode.

For an A2-class adventure bike, the F 450 GS is absolutely packed with features and electronics.
The flood of electronics is managed via a high-resolution 6.5-inch TFT display with BMW Multi Controller operation. It offers two display modes:
- Pure Ride Screen - focusing on speed and RPM.
- Sport Screen - available from the Exclusive variant, with additional displays for lean angle, braking force, and DTC.
Via Bluetooth, you can pair your smartphone and helmet to listen to music, make calls, or navigate. The BMW Motorrad Connected app offers simple arrow navigation on the display; with the optional ConnectedRide Navigator or Smartphone Cradle, map navigation is also possible. Clear visibility is ensured by the standard LED headlight with the distinctive "X" daytime running light signature, flanked by LED indicators and taillight.
Design and Ergonomics of the BMW F 450 GS 2026
The design of the BMW F 450 GS is clearly inspired by the larger R 1300 GS. The characteristic GS beak and the sleek tail define its appearance. According to BMW's head of design, Alexander Buckan, the GS spirit has been deliberately transferred to the A2 class. The high-positioned aluminum handlebars, the compact tank-seat line, and the narrow 14-liter tank are designed to provide optimal control both sitting and standing. The standard seat height is 845 mm, with optional low (830 mm) and rally high (865 mm) seats available. Adjustable hand levers, a handlebar riser (20 mm), and an adjustable footpeg system offer additional customization options.

The GS design line known from the R 1300 GS is clearly recognizable in its smallest sibling model.
