Testing Conditions in Scotland and Detailed Review of Vanucci Products

Before embarking on our twelve-day tour test through Scotland, Ralf from Feelgoodreisen, who planned the route, warned us: Expect unpredictable weather, long stretches, and truly challenging situations in the far north. The journey, covering around 2,000 kilometers starting from Edinburgh with a focus on the NC500 and selected detours, was beautiful yet intense. The Vanucci touring gear was alternately tested by my female companion and myself on an adventure bike, the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro, and a crossover machine, the Triumph Tiger Sport 800.

The weather showcased the full spectrum of northern conditions—from drizzle and dense fog to sunny stretches with double-digit wind gusts. Daily precipitation, mostly wet roads, temperatures ranging from 8 to 18 degrees Celsius, and many hours in the saddle provided ideal conditions to thoroughly test the Vanucci gear.

The test included the following Vanucci clothing items: the VAJ-5 textile jacket and the matching VAT-6 textile pants, both available in men's and women's versions. The set was complemented by the women's gloves VAG-6 and men's gloves VAG-7, both designed for touring in adverse weather conditions. For touring boots, the VAB-11 STX Lady for women and the VAB-5 Sympatex for men were used. All pieces are from Vanucci's current range at Louis and were used daily throughout the entire period—on dry sections as well as in rain, on asphalt, and even on foot during stops.

Vanucci VAJ-5 Jacket & VAT-6 Pants Review: Touring Gear for Men and Women in Daily Bad Weather Use

At the heart of the test package were the Vanucci VAJ-5 textile jacket and the matching VAT-6 motorcycle pants, available in both men's and women's versions. The differences are minimal, mainly regarding the placement of the ventilation openings: the women's jacket has them on the arms, while the men's jacket features them on the chest. Both variants left a consistently robust and functional impression. The material feel is somewhat stiffer than that of lightweight summer suits, contributing to a heightened sense of protection and an overall high-quality appearance. The fit was neutral to sporty in both versions, with sensible adjustment options at the waist, sleeves, and waistband. Both when sitting and during active riding on twisty roads, everything stayed in place without flapping or constricting. Jacket and pants can be securely zipped together with the counterpart in the same or a larger size, which is recommended to provide optimal protection.

Particularly in the wet weather conditions in Scotland, the suit (fortunately) shone. The integrated Sympatex membrane remained reliably waterproof even during hours-long, sometimes heavy rain. However, the outer material noticeably absorbs water, which makes the jacket heavier and takes longer to dry after riding. This isn't functionally problematic but can be somewhat inconvenient on the go. The thermal lining was a welcome comfort bonus during morning chill but could be quickly removed in milder temperatures. The ventilation is sensibly placed in principle, but due to the lack of heat during the test period, it couldn't be assessed under challenging conditions. In terms of protection, the suit offers level 2 protectors on shoulders, elbows, knees, and hips. The inserts sit securely and comfortably. Back protectors can be optionally retrofitted, with most common types fitting into the designated opening inside the back.

The pockets are pleasantly large, easily accessible, and give a durable impression. However, not all are fully waterproof, which can lead to soaked contents in persistent rain—those traveling with paper maps or sensitive equipment should take additional precautions here or store them elsewhere. The non-waterproof pockets are clearly marked.

Overall, the jacket and pants proved to be thoroughly tour-capable companions, particularly showcasing their strengths in changeable weather and on longer stretches. They can be recommended with the exception of the mentioned limitations (drying time or pocket waterproofness).

Vanucci VAG-6 & VAG-7 Gloves Review: Touring Gloves Offering Comfort Even in the Rain

Two different glove models were tested: the VAG-6 for women and the VAG-7 for men. Both are built on a solid leather construction with textile lining and an integrated climate membrane. The differences lie in the details: the VAG-6 is tailored for narrower hands (it's advisable to order a size larger) and offers a compact grip feel, while the VAG-7 additionally features a visor wiper on the left index finger and a reliable touchscreen function, which proves extremely useful in everyday use.

In both cases, the excellent fit stands out; even on long rides, there were no pressure points or restricted movement. The climate membrane performed excellently: despite several rain showers, hands remained dry, with no heat buildup or moisture inside. The grip on the handlebars was always direct, with precise control over clutch and brakes.

Where there is light, there is also shadow. Ventilation is where both models fall short. They are clearly designed for transitional touring conditions and quickly reach their limits in summer temperatures. Those seeking maximum ventilation will not find it here—but the setup offers clear advantages in poorer weather and for longer trips.

Vanucci VAB-11 STX Lady & VAB-5 Sympatex Touring Boots Review: Secure Grip in Any Weather

The new women's short boot VAB-11 STX Lady and the VAB-5 Sympatex for men completed the touring package. Both are crafted from hydrophobic cowhide leather, feature a Sympatex climate membrane, and come with a Michelin touring sole that proved its worth on wet surfaces. Particularly during walking passages over slippery ferry decks or wet dirt paths, the sole's grip was notably impressive.

In terms of protection, both models are equipped with certified protectors at the ankle and shin, as well as reinforced toe protection. Thanks to the side zippers, slipping them on is easy, and even broader feet faced no issues during the test. However, with the VAB-5, the tall shaft can cause slight pressure points on muscular calves—using long socks as a buffer is recommended here. The women's variant is cut slightly shorter, enhancing walking comfort, but can allow water ingress with short pants or a riding suit that rides up.

Both models remained waterproof in the rain, and the comfort level was maintained even after several hours in the saddle. The overall craftsmanship was consistently of a high quality.

Conclusion on Vanucci Touring Gear After 2000km Intensive Test: Reliable Weather Protection for Ambitious Motorcyclists

The Vanucci gear tested for men and women proved to be a well-thought-out, reliable set for riders who refuse to let the weather dictate whether they get on the bike or not. Particularly impressive in the real-world test were its excellent weather protection, high comfort on long rides, and solid construction. There are some limitations, such as drying time when the outer material gets soaked, and the pockets could be fully waterproof given the price. Whether the ventilation openings are adequate on hot days will require another test.

Overall, this clothing line impresses with its practicality, functional design, and robust protection—all at a fair price point. For those seeking solid, honest touring gear, this is a great find, whether you're facing sun, fog, or persistent rain.

FAQ on Vanucci Textile Apparel by Louis

How waterproof is the Vanucci Touring Suit VAJ-5/VAT-6 on long motorcycle trips?
The Vanucci suit with Sympatex membrane stays reliably waterproof even during hours-long rides in the rain. However, the outer material noticeably absorbs water, which extends the drying time. Protection remains intact, but handling post-ride can be a bit cumbersome.

How is the fit of the Vanucci Motorcycle Jacket VAJ-5 and Pants VAT-6 for men and women?
The Vanucci VAJ-5 and VAT-6 offer a close fit with thoughtful adjustability at the waist, sleeves, and waistband. The men's and women's versions differ in ventilation and cut, but not in basic protection or features.

Are the pockets of the Vanucci motorcycle clothing completely waterproof for everyday use?
The Vanucci VAJ-5 offers partially waterproof pockets—but not all are waterproof. Important documents or electronics should be additionally protected or moved to a secure inner pocket, as prolonged heavy rain could otherwise become an issue.

How do the Vanucci Motorcycle Gloves VAG-6 and VAG-7 perform in cold and wet conditions?
The Vanucci gloves VAG-6 (women) and VAG-7 (men) impress with high waterproofing, good fit, and practical features like touchscreen functionality (VAG-7). They show weaknesses in heat—for high summer tours, they may be too warm.
