BMW CE 02 vs Felo FW-06 - Electric comparison

In the world of touring motorcycles, this would probably be called a crossover: A bike that moves between the traditional classes of motorcycle construction. Such a term has not yet been found in the electric category, which is why manufacturers come up with their own names. BMW calls the CE 02 "eParkourer", Felo the FW-06 simply "New Concept". What they have in common, however, is that neither of the two electric vehicles fits into the scooter or naked bike category - they are something in between. The CE 02 and FW-06 are both classified in the A1 driving license category, allowing them to be ridden with the B-111 (AT) and B-196 (DE) driving license supplements. Each bike has a maximum output of 11 kW, with the Felo having a rated output of 5 kW and the BMW with 6 kW. The torque at the crankshaft is also comparable, with the CE 02 producing 55 Nm and the FW-06 slightly edging it out with 58 Nm. Both motorcycles offer similar performance in urban settings, with smooth response and traction control enhancing their appeal.

When it comes to top speed, however, things get exciting. BMW electronically limits the CE 02 to 95 km/h. On the Felo FW-06, the theoretical top speed is 90 km/h, if it weren't for the boost button on the handlebars. This releases the full power and ensures a top speed of up to 125 km/h. Of course, this consumes battery power, but the Chinese vehicle also has a larger battery capacity.

At first glance, it may seem unbelievable, but the FW-06 manages to fit more battery capacity into its 113 mm shorter wheelbase. The built-in battery of the Felo offers a capacity of 5.6 kWh, which the manufacturer claims is sufficient for a range of 120 to 140 kilometers. In contrast, the larger BMW CE 02 only has a capacity of 3.92 kWh, providing a range of approximately 90 kilometers. However, the BMW's batteries can be removed.

Both BMW and Felo are targeting beginners and car drivers looking to transition to a motorized two-wheeler. As a result, they both provide a certain level of safety features. Both electric bikes come equipped with traction control and an ABS system at the front - unfortunately, only at the front. This means there is a risk of the rear wheel locking up in adverse road and weather conditions. Particularly in urban settings with road markings, cobblestones, and possibly even tram tracks, this could lead to dangerous situations in case of an emergency. However, it should be noted that this equipment is not mandatory in the A1 class, allowing manufacturers to cut costs in this crucial area.

Fast and economical for commuting to work and back home. Both e-vehicles are ideal for short trips and are likely mainly used for daily commuting by their owners. However, the BMW CE 02 stands out with its high-quality chassis, providing a smooth ride even over cobblestones. While the CE 02 may not be the most affordable A1 bike, its well-behaved chassis is a rare find in the 125cc class. In terms of comfort, the BMW excels, but the Felo FW-06 makes up for it with its storage space. Despite the seat compartment being only suitable for small items, it offers more storage than the BMW, which lacks any storage space. Additionally, the Felo features a glove compartment with a USB charging option, whereas the BMW provides a USB-C charging socket on the handlebars.

The CE 02 from BMW features a spacious seat and two sets of footrests for the rider, providing the option to choose a comfortable riding position. In contrast, Felo's FW-06 comes with a compact rider's seat that may be less comfortable for taller riders due to the acute knee angle.

You can find the charging times for CE 02 and FW-06 in the table above, but how do you charge the two vehicles? Both BMW and Felo are charged at the household socket using the charger supplied. The Germans offer a fast charger in the original accessories, which increases the charging power from 0.9 kW to 1.5 kW. For simple public charging, Felo offers an adapter to type 2 - a plug that is also frequently used in wallboxes. Anyone who likes to store their batteries in a warm apartment over winter will be happy with the BMW: With the CE 02, they can be removed.

If you're looking to get your hands on the BMW eParkourer, the starting price is already quite steep at CHF 7,700. Opting for the Highline package, which includes heated grips, a third riding mode, stylish design, and more, will set you back an additional CHF 1,020. At CHF 8,710, the BMW eParkourer is definitely not a budget option, but it does offer a more advanced bike compared to the Felo.

Not a motorcycle, not a scooter - but electric. This aspect is shared by BMW's and Felo's approach to urban electric mobility in the A1 class. In practice, however, the Felo proves to be a Swiss army knife that can cope with any task. A workhorse that fits perfectly into the city with its compact dimensions and suits anyone who has never owned a motorized two-wheeler.

The BMW CE 02 impresses with its high level of chassis comfort and variable seating position, making it ideal for tall riders. It offers a premium feeling, but comes at a price. To determine which bike best suits your lifestyle, a test ride is necessary.
