Benelli Tornado Naked Tre 903 Concept with active wings

Triple comeback with 14,000 rpm and a modular frame

A new triple, a frame made of three modules and wings that adjust individually: with a sporty concept bike at EICMA 2026, Benelli shows what its R&D department in Pesaro is working on.

Benelli and three-cylinder engines rings a bell, doesn't it? With the Tornado Tre and Tornado Naked Tre, this engine layout defined the brand in the first decade of the 2000s. At EICMA 2026, the Italians are picking up that thread again. The Tornado Naked Tre 903 Concept is a sporty show bike that brings together current ideas from the Centro Stile and the R&D department in Pesaro. And it's about more than just a new look: the engine, frame and aerodynamics serve as a testing ground for future technical solutions.

Benelli Tornado Naked Tre 903: a new triple

The engine sticks with the familiar basic layout of a transversely mounted inline triple. According to Benelli, however, that's where the kinship with earlier engines ends, because the design is all-new. Displacement comes in at just under 900 cc, and the manufacturer quotes an engine weight of 56 kilograms. A bore significantly larger than the stroke characterises the short-stroke layout, which is said to allow a maximum engine speed of 14,000 rpm. The throttle is ride-by-wire, complemented by an anti-hopping clutch and a bidirectional quickshifter. The electronic management uses a six-axis IMU.

The exhaust is also part of the concept's technology package. Its end can is 3D-printed. According to Benelli, this allows shapes and wall thicknesses to be realised with particular precision. The brand also sees this as a possible production method for bikes built in very small numbers. The approach thus goes beyond the mere styling of the show bike.

Tornado Naked Tre 903 with a three-module frame

With the frame, Benelli wants to take the usual platform concept a step further. The idea behind it: when very different bikes share the same fixed frame, geometry, centre of gravity and stiffness have to reconcile a range of different requirements. Benelli therefore relies on three independent modules for the front, middle and rear. By swapping one or more sections, the structure should be adaptable to different uses and stiffness requirements. At the same time, the manufacturer expects more efficient assembly of the models that will use the concept in future.

On the Tornado Naked Tre 903 Concept, the front and rear frame modules are made of aluminium. The middle section is made of composite material and integrates the seat-supporting subframe. The chassis also includes an aluminium swingarm of inverted design, slick tyres and Brembo brakes. Up front there's fully adjustable Marzocchi suspension, at the rear an equally fully adjustable Öhlins shock. Benelli thus combines the new frame construction with components suited to the concept's sporty character.

Benelli Tornado Naked Tre 903: cockpit details

The racing-inspired styling is deliberately aggressive. In the details, however, Benelli also emphasises practical everyday considerations. The triple clamp, for instance, accommodates both the clip-on mounts and the housing of a minimalist, horizontally oriented display. The front air intake feeds the airbox via a flexible duct. It runs past the steering head and is intended to prevent the air ducting from limiting the steering lock. Here, the technical packaging is part of the concept.

Tornado Naked Tre 903: active wings with IMU control

The most striking solution lies in the aerodynamics. The wings of the Tornado Naked Tre 903 Concept are controlled via the IMU. According to Benelli, their angle of attack changes in real time depending on speed and riding situation, for example when braking, accelerating and cornering. Both sides can be adjusted independently of each other. When stationary or when the wings aren't needed, they retract into the aerodynamic ducts. This way, they're supposed to do their job on the move and disappear into the bike's lines when standing still. The concept thus shows the role Benelli intends to give movable aerodynamic elements in its further development.

FAQ on the Benelli Tornado Naked Tre 903 Concept

What is the Benelli Tornado Naked Tre 903 Concept?

A sporty show bike for EICMA 2026 and a testing ground for ideas from Benelli's design and R&D department in Pesaro. The focus is on a new triple, a modular frame and active aerodynamics.

What engine data does Benelli quote for the concept?

The new inline triple has a displacement of just under 900 cc and, according to the manufacturer, weighs 56 kilograms. Its markedly short-stroke layout is said to allow a maximum engine speed of 14,000 rpm.

What sets the modular frame apart?

It consists of three independent sections. By swapping individual modules, it is intended to cover different uses and stiffness requirements. On the concept, Benelli combines aluminium with a middle section made of composite material.

How do the active aero wings work?

The IMU controls the angle of attack depending on speed and riding situation, independently for each side. When stationary or not in use, the wings retract into the aerodynamic ducts.
