Kawasaki Ninja 650 2027: Sportier Chassis and Brakes
More sport for Kawasaki's accessible middleweight twin
The Kawasaki Ninja 650 enters the 2027 model year with technical updates. A new Showa fork, four-piston brakes, TFT update, and optional quickshifter are meant to make it sportier.
The Ninja 650 has been Kawasaki's accessible gateway into the world of faired middleweights for years. For 2027, the familiar basic recipe with a 649cc parallel twin and trellis frame remains unchanged. Instead, Kawasaki focuses mainly on the chassis and brakes. Added to this are a revised TFT display, new connectivity functions, and for the first time an optional quickshifter.
Kawasaki Ninja 650 2027 gets new Showa USD fork
The most striking technical change is at the front. The previous conventional fork is gone, replaced by a 37-millimeter Showa SFF-BP upside-down fork. According to Kawasaki, the increased rigidity of the new construction is meant to improve road holding as well as front-wheel feedback. At the same time, the setup was chosen so that the Ninja 650's familiar light and neutral handling is preserved.
The big-piston construction is also meant to allow for smooth responsiveness at the beginning of the travel. When trail braking into a corner, Kawasaki promises calmer load changes, more stability when turning in, and a more planted feeling at the front. To match this, the Horizontal Back-Link rear suspension was retuned. Spring rate and damping characteristics were revised, and the base preload setting was also adjusted. The rear is meant to harmonize better with the new front end.
Kawasaki Ninja 650 2027 gets radial four-piston brakes
Kawasaki is also upgrading the brakes. Instead of the previous axially mounted two-piston calipers, radially mounted four-piston calipers are now used at the front. This is meant to increase rigidity and make the response at the brake lever more direct. Kawasaki speaks of linear and more controllable braking performance.
The diameter of the two front brake discs remains unchanged at 300 millimeters. However, Kawasaki abandons the previous petal design in favor of round brake discs. Brake pads, brake lever, and ABS tuning have also been adjusted. There's also a small visual change at the front. The new fender is wider and covers the outer fork tubes more.
New look for the TFT display
The familiar 4.3-inch TFT color display remains, but gets a new display layout for 2027. Two display variants are available, and you can also switch between a black and a white background. Display brightness adjusts automatically to ambient light. The smartphone connection has also been expanded. Vehicle and ride information continue to be available via RIDEOLOGY THE APP MOTORCYCLE. New are navigation and voice control functions.
Ninja 650 gets a quickshifter for the first time from 2027
Another update should be of particular interest to sportier Ninja riders. For the first time, the Kawasaki Ninja 650 can be fitted with the Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS). The quickshifter is not standard but available as an accessory, enabling clutchless upshifts under acceleration. Kawasaki promises added riding pleasure as a result. A quickshifter for downshifting is not mentioned in the information provided.
Kawasaki Ninja 650 2027: 68 hp and 64 Nm remain
Kawasaki sticks with the familiar concept for the engine. The liquid-cooled 649cc parallel twin continues to produce 50.2 kW, or 68 hp, at 8,000 rpm. Maximum torque is 64 Nm at 6,700 rpm. A 35 kW version also remains available, keeping the Ninja 650 interesting for riders with an A2 license.
Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC) also remains on board, offering two rider-selectable modes.
