Concept Bikes 2025: Is THIS what the future of motorcycling looks like?!

At EICMA 2024, Benelli unveiled the TRK 902 Xplorer Concept, an adventure bike study with a new design and platform. The model is powered by a newly developed twin-cylinder engine with 904 cc, delivering 100 hp and 90 Nm of torque. The chassis is set up for off-road use with 200 mm of suspension travel front and rear, plus Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres on spoked wheels. The 22-litre tank allows for longer rides. Features include an electronically adjustable windscreen, integrated fog lights, and a toolbox in place of the pillion seat. The paint finish in "Jungle Fog", a matte green tone, was developed in collaboration with the Benelli Style Center in Pesaro. Whether and to what extent this concept will make it into a production model remains to be seen.

With the Concept F 450 GS, BMW presents a near-production-ready adventure bike for the A2 licence class up to 48 hp. Powered by a newly developed inline twin engine that impresses with offset firing order and lightweight construction using materials such as magnesium, it promises high revvy character and strong torque even at low rpm. The chassis features a fully adjustable upside-down fork and a shock with travel-dependent damping, inspired by rally and enduro racing, to ensure excellent handling both off-road and on the street. Features such as lean-angle-sensitive ABS Pro, performance brakes, freely configurable riding modes and a 6.5-inch TFT display with connectivity sound promising. Visually, the F 450 GS carries the typical GS DNA and takes cues from the colour scheme of the R 1300 GS Trophy version. The production version's market launch is planned for 2025.

At the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como, BMW Motorrad presented the BMW R20 concept, a naked bike with a Big Boxer engine enlarged to 2,000 cc, already familiar from the R 18. The chassis was completely redeveloped and consists of a black double-loop main frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel tubes. Up front sits a 17-inch spoked wheel with a 120/70 tyre, and at the rear a 17x6.25-inch disc wheel with a 200/55 tyre. The design picks up on retro elements from the 1970s, including an aluminium tank finished in "hotter than pink". Although no performance data has been announced yet, the R20 is expected to go into production as early as 2025.

With "Master of Speed", CFMOTO presents a design study that sketches out a possible future for high-performance bikes. The concept relies on flowing lines and polished surfaces to embody speed and precision. To match it, the new V4 engine V.04 was unveiled, a 997 cc 90-degree V engine producing over 212 hp at 14,500 rpm and 114 Nm of torque. Thanks to titanium con-rods, lightweight components and a counter-rotating crankshaft, it should be able to keep up with the established competition.

At EICMA 2024, Honda presented a newly developed V3 four-stroke engine with a 75-degree cylinder angle and liquid-cooled design. The engine is compactly built and features an electric compressor that flexibly controls the intake air to deliver strong torque especially at low and medium rpm. This construction allows for improved mass centralisation, which could optimise handling and riding dynamics. The concept is reminiscent of the 1985 Honda NS400R, which was also fitted with a V3 engine. Honda plans to bring this new engine to production readiness and use it in future models.

At EICMA 2024, Honda presented two electric bike concepts: the EV Fun Concept and the EV Urban Concept. The EV Fun Concept is a sporty naked bike with a fixed battery that allows a range of over 100 km in city traffic and offers CCS2 fast-charging capability. This model is set to launch in 2025. The EV Urban Concept, on the other hand, is designed for urban traffic and combines functional design with connected technologies to improve the urban riding experience. With these concepts, Honda underscores its plans to offer a comprehensive range of electric bikes by 2030 and achieve CO₂ neutrality by 2050.

Kawasaki is currently working on a hydrogen-powered bike. The prototype is based on a modified 998 cc supercharged inline-four from the Ninja H2, in which hydrogen is injected directly into the cylinders. The specially adapted chassis integrates the hydrogen tanks and supply system. The bike is intended to offer a riding feel similar to a petrol-powered machine, but it emits mostly water instead of CO₂. Kawasaki is part of the HySE research consortium, which is developing hydrogen technologies for small vehicles. Series production is planned for the early 2030s, but depends on infrastructure and legal requirements.

With the 921 S, MV Agusta has presented a concept bike that pays homage to the 750S from the 1970s while also offering a glimpse into future models. The bike is powered by a newly developed 921 cc inline-four engine producing 115.5 hp at 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 116.5 Nm. The design combines classic café racer elements with modern technology, including a flat build, a 4.5-inch touchscreen display on the tank, and innovative components such as special wheels and brake covers. Although it is a design study, the 921 S could go into production in a similar form.

With the Him-E, Royal Enfield has presented an electric version of the Himalayan. The model retains the Himalayan's classic design but is fitted with an electric motor. Technical details such as range, charging times or power output have not yet been released. The Him-E 2024 signals Royal Enfield's entry into the electric bike market and combines traditional design with modern drivetrain technology.

Royal Enfield is expanding its portfolio with the electric brand "Flying Flea", named after the historic model from the 1940s. The first models, the classically styled Flying Flea C6 and the scrambler-inspired Flying Flea S6, are set to be available from spring 2026. These urban electric bikes combine traditional design with modern technology, including a central vehicle control unit (VCU), individual riding modes, and over-the-air updates. With the launch of "Flying Flea", Royal Enfield aims to offer sustainable and stylish mobility solutions for urban areas.
