Design byl proto měněn opatrně a známé možnosti podvozku a elektroniky zůstaly zachovány. Nový název R 1250 GS však slibuje nový motor - a ten má opravdu něco do sebe! Výkon 136 k při 7750 ot/min a maximální točivý moment 143 newtonmetrů při 6250 ot/min jsou naprostá bomba! BMW tak renovovalo velké GS téměř dokonale: zůstává jasně rozpoznatelné, má o něco více elektroniky ve standardní výbavě, stále dlouhý seznam příplatků (které si zákazníci rádi zaškrtávají od A do Z) a nyní ještě lepší a suverénnější pohonnou jednotku - co víc si přát!

Poloha sedadla je sportovní, ale v žádném případě ne nepohodlná, brzdy jsou výkonné a motor modelu S 1000 R je v nejlepší kondici - možná až příliš homogenní. Po jízdní stránce si také není na co stěžovat. Na základě čistě výkonových údajů a instalovaných elektronických prvků má BMW pravděpodobně na to, aby dosáhlo nejrychlejšího času na kolo. A to na jakémkoli povrchu, protože s poloaktivním odpružením můžete žrát kilometr za kilometrem i na špatných silnicích posetých výmoly. Bohužel se tento pocit nadřazenosti nikdy nepřenesl na řidiče. Pravděpodobně nevýhoda přílišné vyváženosti ve všech oblastech - alespoň v mých italofilských očích. BMW postrádalo to jisté cosi, charisma, které se těžko vysvětluje, ale vzbuzuje opravdové emoce.
