In terms of strengths, the KTM 1050 Adventure offers a powerful and refined engine, with disengageable ABS and adjustable traction control. The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin offers a comfortable riding experience with a well-dimensioned engine. However, the KTM 1050 Adventure does have some weaknesses. The rev limiter kicks in at 8500 revs, which may limit its performance in certain situations. The chassis is also considered to be a little too soft for off-road use. On the other hand, the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin's suspension elements are well-suited for off-road riding but are too comfortably tuned at high speeds. Pros and Cons in comparison

Pros and Cons in comparison

KTM 1050 Adventure 2016

KTM 1050 Adventure 2016

In my opinion, the KTM 1050 Adventure picks up where the 990 Adventure left off a few years ago: Around 100 hp of power, playful handling and as much or as little electronics as is currently state-of-the-art. The engine is anything but weak, ABS and traction control regulate safely and inconspicuously and the handling is extremely fun-oriented, partly because of the relatively narrow tyres. And all this at a price that is only undercut by a few competitors in the league of big touring enduros. Sad as it may be, the two 1190 Adventures and, above all, the flagship 1290 Super Adventure, have soared in price to very high levels. And that is precisely why the KTM 1050 Adventure is perhaps the most coherent of the four Adventure models.

Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin 2017

Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin 2017

Still sensational. It scores with the familiar Honda virtues, but never gets stale. A motorbike that goes with you through thick and thin and doesn't tire even on extra-long tours. Very robust off-road, also copes with really tough passages without any problems. Still the benchmark for touring enduros in 2017.

Comfortable but not boring

Pleasant and perfectly dimensioned engine

Seat height a tad lower than on the KTM- from 175cm height it could work

Suspension elements do everything off-road, but are too comfortably tuned at high speeds

traction control is annoying off-road - always has to be readjusted after every short break.
