Overview - BMW R nineT 2014 vs Ducati Streetfighter 2009

The BMW R nineT model year 2014 and the Ducati Streetfighter model year 2009 are both naked bikes that offer a thrilling riding experience. While they share some similarities in terms of engine power, number of cylinders, and front brake configuration, they also have distinct differences in their technical specifications and overall strengths and weaknesses.

In terms of engine power, the Ducati Streetfighter takes the lead with 155 HP compared to the BMW R nineT's 110 HP. This difference in power output can significantly impact the acceleration and top speed of the motorcycles. However, the BMW R nineT compensates for this with its strong torque of 119 Nm, which is higher than the Ducati Streetfighter's 115 Nm. The torque plays a crucial role in the low-end and mid-range power delivery, ensuring better acceleration and responsiveness.

The cooling systems of the two bikes also differ, with the BMW R nineT featuring an oil-air cooling system, while the Ducati Streetfighter utilizes liquid cooling. Oil-air cooling is known for its simplicity and reliability, while liquid cooling offers better temperature control and is more suitable for high-performance engines.

In terms of displacement, the BMW R nineT has a larger engine with a displacement of 1170 cc compared to the Ducati Streetfighter's 1099 cc. This larger displacement can contribute to a smoother power delivery and potentially better overall performance.

The front suspension systems also differ between the two bikes. The BMW R nineT is equipped with a telescopic fork, while the Ducati Streetfighter features an upside-down telescopic fork. Both suspension setups offer good handling and stability, but upside-down forks are generally considered to provide better performance due to their increased rigidity and reduced unsprung weight.

When it comes to the chassis, the BMW R nineT has a load-bearing engine frame type, which is known for its simplicity and lightweight construction. On the other hand, the Ducati Streetfighter features a tubular frame, which offers excellent rigidity and stability.

In terms of braking performance, both bikes are equipped with four-piston front brakes. However, the Ducati Streetfighter has the advantage of using radial monoblock technology, which provides enhanced braking power and control compared to the BMW R nineT's radial brakes.

In terms of dimensions and weights, both bikes have a similar wheelbase of around 1475-1476 mm, ensuring stability and agility during cornering.

Moving on to their strengths, the BMW R nineT stands out for its appealing aesthetics, powerful engine, reliable fork, and excellent workmanship. The Ducati Streetfighter, on the other hand, is praised for its powerful engine, good brakes, comfortable seating position, precise chassis, and distinctive look.

However, both bikes have their weaknesses. The BMW R nineT has been criticized for having a touch too little rebound damping in the shock absorber, which can affect the overall ride quality. On the other hand, the Ducati Streetfighter lacks electronic features, which may be a drawback for riders who prefer advanced technology and convenience.

In conclusion, the BMW R nineT 2014 and the Ducati Streetfighter 2009 are both impressive naked bikes with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. While the Ducati Streetfighter offers a more powerful engine and advanced braking technology, the BMW R nineT excels in its aesthetics, engine performance, and overall craftsmanship. Ultimately, the choice between the two will depend on the rider's personal preferences and priorities.

The "old" Streetfighter surprised me - despite not having a single electronic feature, this forerunner of today's hyper-naked bikes is very easy to ride! Above all, the engine is a stunner, the 154 hp hang wonderfully on the throttle and the 115 Newton metres of torque deliver a massive amount of lard. Of course, there is a lot of rumble in the box, as you would expect from a Ducati V2, but that doesn't bother the true fans anyway. Instead, they enjoy the precise chassis and the amazingly good brakes. The seating position is perfectly acceptable for a naked bike that would today fit into the category of hyper-nakeds. Even the look is only slightly greyed by the halogen headlight, but the rear end is timelessly beautiful!
